what does practicing jewish traditions mean for you?
O-R-D-E-R.
it means more than that, but i am a person who needs ritual and routine. i find solace in those things, so having structure gives me the safety and space that i need to reflect on special days like shabbos or through elul. these traditions also give me - for lack of better phrasing - an interactive relationship with my studies. they are MY traditions now, not just things i read about or things that my jewish friends do.
there’s also something to be said for the fact that i do not come from a family or environment of tradition in any sense. while i would not call my upbringing “chaotic”, i am a child of divorce (3x) with no siblings and not a lot in the way of strong family ties. frequent moving around and emotional estrangement/separation paved the way for inconsistency and, if we’re getting to the root of it, not much in the way of guarantees. the traditions and rituals afforded to me through judaism give me a sense of stability that i did not have as a child or even as a young adult, and there’s definitely peace in that.
Sabo vest progress pic (roughly ½ complete)
The bottom has really been a struggle. I had to white out the entire thing twice because drawing isn’t my strong suit and what I had was not great. But I decided on the flag and laid in the basic layer this morning, which I’ll build up and refine. I need to find a high-quality brush for those edges - two artists in the house and we can barely find where all our stuff is, lmao.
Debating whiting out a portion behind the flag for his cravat so I have some compositional balance (flag isn’t big enough).
Again, huge deal that I’m seeing this through at all. I’m proud of myself for not quitting when something didn’t go right.
listening to the new wraith squadron audiobooks and i forgot about the exchange between wedge and falynn where she accuses him of being 40 and he’s like ☹️☹️☹️ I’M TWENTY-EIGHT 😭😭😭

psa re: hayden christensen
i feel like i’m inviting trouble, but i do not want to hear y’all looking for reasons to cancel hayden or otherwise dunk on him. not now, not when kenobi and ahsoka come out, not ever. i’ve already seen a couple things flying around here and on discord that i’m not fond of, so i’m putting this out here now.
condescending as it may sound, most of tumblr is not old enough to remember firsthand the abuse he suffered from the fandom. with social media being such an integral part of our lives now, he will be subjected to even more scrutiny, criticism, and bullying than when the prequels were originally released. it essentially drove him away from high-profile gigs, and while i imagine he’s going to remain relatively reclusive/offline/not on socials unless disney forces him to do some promos through IG, he’s still going to be hyper-aware of any dumbass commentary.
the last thing he needs is for the fandom - which is arguably even more toxic now than it was back then, judging by how people have handled the disney buyout, the sequels, female/BIPOC/LGBTQ+ rep, etc. and the ability to easily put knee-jerk reactions out there for all to see - to make star wars a bad experience for him for the second time.
so... just don’t. leave the man alone. he’s not perfect, but let him do his thing. give him all the support in the world and, if you don’t enjoy whatever the end product is, don’t make it personal.
Bear with me for a moment: imagine a Star Wars AU with in-universe merch á la Hercules.
The Jedi are fairly popular and Obikin are pretty boys. It seems natural to slap those faces on some space Wheaties.
But there comes a time when Anakin sees some of his merch on the discount table…
Ahsoka: the public wants more than Generic White Boy, I’m afraid.
Anakin: I’m not generic! I’m name brand!
Alright, I’m done.
