you know.. with the whole star girl series and with us bing trained by neteyam them switched to lo’ak and us learning how to hunt, and learning their skills of how to protect ourselves *with the bows and arrows*
i’m really sad to see that we just kinda chose to be a … healer 😭 like with helping kiri and mo’at with the injured.
like we could’ve been badass and help lo’ak and the others on the battle field along with neytiri as well!
idk i’m just always seeing y/n in these stories just being a healer and i was hoping it would’ve been different for this series.
Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I’ll expand a little bit about the reader in Star Girl and why I’ve written her the way I have.
So, from the beginning, I wanted her to have a strong connection with Pandora and Eywa despite the fact that she’s human. If you remember, in the first chapter it’s mentioned that she’s been formulating her own medicines while studying and exploring the land.
The plan was always to have her end up working with Kiri and Mo’at, forming a strong bond with them and having that be the bridge that ultimately leads to her acceptance within the clan. It’s a large part of her growth as a character and is supposed to showcase a natural talent for working with the flora that guided Eywa to save her in the first place.
In my opinion, she has several badass moments in Star Girl. She stands up to Neteyam, and eventually Neytiri, when they’re treating her poorly. She works hard to learn the clans ways and perseveres through all the associated challenges. She saves Tuk from a pack of viperwolves without hesitation and without care for her own safety.
I also think healing/saving the lives of the clan members is pretty badass but either way, being tough doesn’t have to mean being a warrior. There are many ways to showcase strength and my hope was to make her a multilayered character. There is a lot of strength in holding down the fort while others throw themselves into battle.
Plus, she has a great war moment coming up in the next chapter (had to fix this, it’s actually in chapter three!) of Temptation that I’m looking forward to writing. Speaking of, the reader for that series is very different than Star Girl and you may like her development better if you’re looking for more of a warrior type.
Ultimately, it’s okay to have differing opinions and I’m glad you shared yours! Hopefully this didn’t come off as rude (and sorry it’s so long) I just wanted to expand on the inner workings of her character. Feel free to message me or submit another ask if you want to chat more :)
