Lizzy K reviews Property of the Rebel Librarian by Allison Varnes
Annie’s Life in Lists by Kristin Mahoney
Review by Lizzy K, grade 10, 2018 Teen Book Reviewer
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Annie has an incredible memory that, one day, gets her in major trouble in school. Soon after, her family moves from New York City to a small town in New Jersey. With a desire to overcome her shyness, moving is perfect but she's afraid that she was the reason they had to move in the first place. Making friends is difficult for Annie and, with her older brother being mad at her, home life is difficult too.
I gave this book 5 out of 5 because it was fun and easy to read. I found myself reading large amounts of this book because it is in the style of Annie's diary, which she writes in list form. The characters are very well developed and this book had suspense and great plot-twists. It was hard to put down at times because I always wanted the best for Annie and the other characters. I think this book was amazing and everybody should have a chance to read it.
Property of the Rebel Librarian by Allison Varnes
Review by Lizzy K, grade 10, 2018 Teen Book Reviewer
Genre: Realistic Fiction
June Harper is a good kid who always follows the rules.... until one day her dad finds her reading a book that he believes is too inappropriate for her. Because of this, a book ban is done at her middle school so, she begins to run a secret library in the school. One day, her library is revealed. June's love for books and reading gets many involved, including the news. Will her school un-ban books?
If I could rate this book a 6 out of 5, I would. This book was amazing and hard to put down. As a fellow avid reader, it was frustrating to read the book because I wanted the best for the well-developed main character, June. I loved how realistic this book was, being as unpredictable as middle school life can be. I loved the writing style in the book, as it really sounded like a middle schooler and kept me intrigued and I found myself reading half the book in one sitting. I think that everybody should read this page turner at least once.
