Louis Jolicoeur and Freddie Lynch

Out of all of the magical, mysterious places hidden within the depths of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, there was none that Louis Jolicoeur preferred to the library. Louis, the middle child of the Jolicoeur clan, was renowned for his high intelligence and dedication to his studies. Whilst Leon and Lara Jolicoeur lived for the party, the twins giggled and gossiped together, and his youngest brother Luke enthusiastically helped Hagrid with some of the more tame magical creatures, Louis was more likely to be found with his nose stuck in a book - or studying some of the various maps that he kept in his Gryffindor Sixth Year dormitory. It wasn’t that Louis didn’t like to go out and spend time with people, nor that he didn’t yearn to be half as sociable as the rest of his family, it was just that the middle Gryffindor boy lacked the confidence that seemed to come easy to the rest of his family. It wasn’t that Louis wasn’t bad looking. In fact, he was tall, handsome, with thick waves of blonde hair alike to his sisters and a charming grin. He was just… different. Quidditch didn’t interest him in the slightest, and he had never kissed a girl – or a boy – in his life. The only time he had ever taken a sip of alcohol was during the new year celebrations at home with his Mum and Roger, in which he had tried a drop of Champagne much to his disgust and the rest of the family’s amusement. But despite his shy exterior, once he had got to know people Louis had a sense of humour to rival even Leon and was a fiercely loyal friend. Perhaps he just needed a kick up the backside, somebody to launch him into the social world of Hogwarts before he tried it himself and got overwhelmed. Either way, sometimes Louis found that it was easier to drown out the world in books than to try to enter it fully.
It was in this sense of apparent helplessness that Louis could be found huddled in the corner of the vast library, his head buried into the pages of a large Volume of Transfiguration. Although it was a Thursday night, and his huge Transfiguration Essay wasn’t due until the next Tuesday, Louis, as always, was determined to get his homework written on time and to an exceptional quality. Black rimmed reading glasses resting upon his face, his baby blue eyes scoured the page and his finger followed, underlining the words so as to help him keep his place. As engrossed as he was, he was completely oblivious to any sounds or movements around him – his mind was completely preoccupied, immersed in the task at hand. Professor McGonagall had told Louis that he could take his N.E.W.T exam a year early, if he spent a few extra hours a week being tutored by a student in the upper years. Upon careful deliberation, it had been chosen that Freddie Lynch was the appropriate student to tutor the younger boy. The Transfiguration Professor/Headmistress had arranged for Freddie and Louis to meet in the library at 5 o’clock. The time on Louis’ watch read, 4:59. Admittedly, Louis, upon reading the time, was feeling pretty nervous – however, he quickly turned his eyes back to his book and tried to remain calm. McGonagall wouldn’t have placed him with someone cruel, even though he was a Slytherin, surely?
