I genuinely think they should make Eddie claustrophobic next season as a consequence of the elevator scene. It could be subtle at first, with Eddie always leaving doors half-open, at home, at the station… He’s not closing his bedroom door anymore, and the windows in his car are always fully down when he’s driving. On calls, he always sits by the window in the engine, taking deep breaths that make him look nervous. But he says it's because of the emergency.

In the ambulance with a patient, Hen notices him glancing at the closed doors every thirty seconds, his leg bouncing frantically, and he says it’s because he’s really worried they won’t make it to the hospital in time. And maybe Hen believes him, because the patient they’re helping is seriously injured and traffic in L.A. is terrible.

And Eddie doesn’t even realize something is wrong with him because he hasn’t let himself think too deeply about it yet, about why he’s acting like this. He keeps telling himself that what happened in the elevator wasn’t a big deal. It wasn’t the first time he’d been trapped in a small space anyway. He was buried in a well years ago and survived. And he’s not going to make this into something bigger than it is.

But then why is he still leaving the bathroom door five inches open while he showers?

His team starts noticing something is wrong. The first time he took the stairs instead of the elevator, they laughed a little, but this is the second time he’s done it during an emergency. Chim gives him a worried look, and no one laughs this time. Buck says he doesn’t feel like taking the elevator either, and Harry says the same and joins them.

He’s making his team worry about him. Why is he doing that? He helps people. That’s his job. He can’t act like he’s the one who needs help.

But Buck keeps looking at him, analyzing him, and Eddie can’t make Buck worry because Buck should be focusing on Theo. Theo needs attention, he lost both his parents, and he’s just a kid.

Buck should focus on him. Not on Eddie. No one should focus on Eddie, because Eddie is fine. He’s normal most of the time, as long as doors are never locked again. And as long as it doesn’t affect his job.

Except it already is.

I love that Eddie was born on June 26, 1992, and Buck on June 27, 1991, because it means that every year, for 24 hours, they're the same age. Eddie turns 34 today, and Buck is still 34 until midnight.
