2020 Week 3. Still working on animations. 7.5 hours, 67 layers and 11 keyframes later, and I got this. Still trying to learn this program! But I’m hoping that at the end of 2020 I can show some progress! Maybe I’ll finally work towards my goal of being a full-time animator! Goals!  ;)

New OC! His name is Coralo, loves the color pink, and has a very unique sense of fashion.  I’m hoping that this year I can try to pop out at least a drawing a week! So have a bunch of picture of my OCs and lets make this year great!

Okay- so I’ve been thinking about this a while. A small number of people a few years back asked me about Verro looking similar to Vio- and guess what- I’m gonna come clean as an artist. Vio from Legend of Zelda Fourswords has been one of my favorite character’s for years. I started out on dA as Ask-Vio-Link back in 2011 and things just went up hill from there. More under the cut: 

So, this is just a small story in how I went through my art (hobby? career?) with Vio. I gained so much experience on dA and I eventually moved to tumblr as ask-violink. I made AUs for Vio- namely Travelmerchant and the collaborated WanderingSpirits. That said, in 2015 I branched out and tried new things. 

I got really into Fantasy Life and I couldn’t bear to leave Vio behind, so he came with me as a smart ass little rabbit that couldn’t help but stick his nose into things he shouldn’t. It was so fun- but this was still Vio from 4s with a different outfit, different look, and different ambitions. Not many people in that fandom were familiar with 4S Vio, so it was like he was an OC to the new world he walking through- and it was addictive to me.  

Fast forward a few months- I got into Splatoon! There were so many OCs EVERYWHERE it was like a dream! I made team Violet- for obvious reasons- (purple is my favorite color). And Vaccine, a variation of Vio was born. I TRIED to make Vaccine into Vio, but Vaccine had a mind of his own. He kept his stoic attitude and quick jibs Vio had, but he evolved into the leader (albeit somewhat cowardly and awkward) of Team Violet. He built relations on awkward situations and his inverted-ness had a charm that made people want him close. 

A few years later, Verro was born. Literally just Arrow+Vio. He was supposed to be Vio with a different name. Did that happen? No. Verro, a BotW Sheikah OC evolved into the sweetest Sheikah there is. Naive but intelligent. So brave despite having been through horrible situations. Master archer trained by the Rito. He was adorable- another failed attempted of making Vio into an OC but gaining an OC with a mind of their own. 

And last year- man I was annoyed. Nearly 8 years of trying to make Vio my own character and I said fuck it. If I don’t change the name, he’ll be the same. Which definitely lead to Veo being created. He has the same style as Vio. Same name. However, this Veo is ten times snarkier. More conniving, more brutal. More murderous. More confident and decisive. More of an ass. He was everything that I had made Vio into over the years- and now, he had his own name. His own style. Veo. 

In some ways, Vio and Veo, they’re similar. In others? They’re not. Would Canon Vio make a massive plot to resurrect the evil they had banished? Probably not. Veo? Fuck yes. Get him those research books and candles, he’s pulling an all nighter. 

That said, at this point, I kind think that the Traveling Merchant AU is a bit of Vio and Veo mixed together. TM!Vio isn’t to the severe extremes that Veo is at, but he still hold a lot of beliefs between the two. 

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I love Vio so much that I tried to make OCs based off of him. Funnily enough, they look similar, but none of them are truly exactly like Vio as their experiences have twisted them in different directions. 

Things that I will always have in common for these characters are: 

Love for Apples (It is the fruit of knowledge)

Love for Archery (in splatoon’s case, Sniping)

Love for Knowledge

Besides those, they’re truly their own personalities, and I love them all. They’re unique in their own way. Maybe trying to base a them off of my favorite character wasn’t unique, but I feel like I was gifted them after the character development they went through to be their own characters.

This is an entirely self indulgent picture of Jun's Sheikah OC Ciar/Shadow and my rendition of Vio Link that has gotten too fair from canon and has become Veo/Swift the Hylian OC. The only thing that is really the same with Veo to Vio is that they have the same hair style/look. It’s kind of the same thing that happened with Vio and Verro. Tried to play Vio, made two totally different OCs based off of him. Funny how that works out.
