The “Yet To Be Listened To” section—I have a rule with myself that a record doesn’t get put in its proper shelf space until at least Side One has been listened to (and a minimum of three sides if it’s a double LP). Some records are naturally going to take a while (there’s like 7 LPs in that Lloyd Cole box set) and others…well, I think the Stones’ “Emotional Rescue” has been there two years now. That’s probably a sign I should sell it.
In the heyday of the Live Album—which is to say, the 1970s—only the likes of Paul McCartney would get the three-LP treatment. In the era of the Vinyl Revival, I guess anyone can if your fans are well-heeled enough, which is why Lloyd Cole has a new acoustic affair across six sides, out from Pledge Music. It’s a damn fortune, but it’s Lloyd—can’t say no to that.
