When I started out playing guitar I took lessons at the local guitar store. The owner/teacher were mean. I didn't learn shit because they taught me the Mel Bay method. #FuckMelBay from his stupid 🎸 books. When I went to other stores I'd ask to try out a guitar and after I was done I'd hear "why don't you come back when you learn how to play guitar." Who says that to a 12 year old? Well all these stores have been replaced by Guitar Center, Sam Ash and eBay. There's barely any guitar stores left in NYC but one that will remain around a long while is @carminestreetguitars. When I went there in the past #RobertQuine, lead guitarist for Richard Hell and the Voidoids, was always hanging out there. And Robert Quine isn't just my favorite punk guitarist, he's my favorite lead 🎸 player PERIOD, just listen to the solo on Matthew Sweet's song 'Girlfriend' which Guitar Hero ended up using. So when I go to Carmine Street Guitars I always think of the greatest guitar soloist ever. Now when I go in there's a friend of mine, Cindy, of @cindyguitars, who is a solid guitar technician who I only trust with my guitars. I used to use @SarahFMichaels until she moved to Baltimore to start a wonderful family with her partner so I was glad to have found another guitar tech, Cindy who will be adding a paisley paint job on my Washburn strat. Back when I started out everyone used to go to #CarloGreco, the best at fixing up your guitar at the most reasobable price. Well now I have Cindy to take all my guitars to. Thank you #RickKelly, for not only making guitars but actual works of art and for taking Cindy under your wing. Now there is a documentary about the coolest, greatest guitar store of them all and I want to give it a shout-out to their documentary film and for giving us guitarists an option to go to besides Sam Ash or Guitar Center. #CarmineStreetGuitars #CindyGuitars #GuitarStores #NYC (at Cindy Guitars) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz-zlXbjixB/?igshid=a5sfxx1xaviw
