I think my favorite thing about music from the 60s and 70s is that black musicians saw that independent labels and ownership of their art had real power. Not the power to make it big and sell a ton of records, but to be true to themselves and their expressions of art. In addition, these pieces of history and art Link to greater and wider causes or organizations. This piece right here was recorded for the black ballet company, Capitol Ballet Company in 1970 and was recorded in McNeill’s hometown of Washington DC. Found this special record at Som a few weeks back.
