Our current exhibition All I’ve Said Above A Whisper / Only The Way Up @willumgeerts in our Courtyard! A very timely exhibition! The shape of the #brassinstruments is based on an economical chart, representing the #skyisthelimit period of three years prior to a historic #economicalcrisis 1637 #tulpmania #wallstreetcrash (1929) and #financialcrisis in 2008. I love this photograph in which the artist, @tommykha dressed himself as Elvis and imposed this image onto a cardboard cut out and placed this in a setting of a 50's style kitchen. It is one of the amazing strengths of Kha's work the combination of portraiture and performative elements in his work. This work can be viewed at @dallasartfair online. The title is Constellations VII, Miami and is from 2015. It is an Archival c-print, which is 26 x 32 inches in an edition of 3. The fair is open until April 23! When @lmakgallery showed me this painting to present it at @dallasartfair it was love at first sight, not realizing that I would pull my back the day after and that this work became even more meaningful, especially now I was able to make my first steps... The gallery interviewed the artist @williebinnie and he mentioned the following: ... "I think about this balance of hope and despair a lot, and it’s something I’m always chasing in the work. In many ways I feel like it is the nexus of my entire practice—balancing a subtle humanism amid what often feels like monolithic, impenetrable darkness. I think some people look at my work and see only the doubt, and maybe sometimes that wins out, but my hope is that one can also sense a little glimmer of belief–candlelight in the cave.... " and yes this work makes me smile! The work is acrylic gesso on raw canvas, 19,5 x 20 inches from 2020 by William Burton Binnie.
