We are very pleased to announce with some fantastic news on the last day of #fourxfive that the fantastic work by William Burton Binnie titled “Preface (Mt Rushmore)” has been acquired by Roanoke College Olin Hall Galleries for their permanent collection. Recently Binnie wrote about the work the following lines; “...depicts the iconic granitecliff-face in the Black Hills of South Dakota in its original state, before bearing the colossal busts of four US presidents. Often positioned as a shrine to democracy, this national monument represents just as much the US government’s theft of sacred native lands—in this case, of the land known as The Six Grandfathers (Tȟuŋkášila Šákpe) to the Lakota Sioux. Through patient layering of pigment on raw canvas, Binnie prods the impetus behind and the hubris of monument building, questioning these motives for “improving” the landscape, and dwelling on the land as the ultimate witness to human activity.” A special thank you to @joannecassullo for her constant support and vision…. a ceaseless soul #williamburtonbinnie @dallasartfair @dallasartfairprojects #dallasartfair #dallasartfair #roanoke #dallas @roanokecollege #roanokecollege #mtrushmore #olinhallgalleries @olinhallgalleries (at Dallas, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIBHObElNZf/?igshid=172v9mafdmkb8
