The concept that men and women can’t be friends is absolutely baffling to me and tbh pisses me off.
For one, it implies that if you have the potential to be attracted to somebody then eventually you inevitably will, and not only that, but also that your attraction will be so overpowering that the only way to deal with it is to have sex or completely cut that person out of your life because the ~sexual tension~ is just TOO MUCH?!?!
Like not only does that sound way too similar to the whole “I can’t control myself” rapey mindset, it also perpetuates the idea that if you like somebody (often men being interested in women, however can happen with anyone) then regardless of if they like you back now, they’ll eventually come around and want to fuck you too. It’s kind of like the friendzone except still holding onto the belief that the other person will change their mind.
Plus, it totally ignores any non-straight person. If this were true, lesbians could only be friends with gay men because neither would eventually want to fuck each other? What about people who are attracted to multiple genders? Do they just never get any friends at all? If you’re in a happy relationship, do you still have to avoid friendships with people of that gender because EVENTUALLY you’re gonna want to fuck them and either ruin the friendship or ruin your relationship with your partner? Wtf is this bullshit? People who actually believe this are weak. The only ‘safe’ friendship is the one between you and your pet.
