“Mmmm! Oh yeah! Right there!”
“You like that baby? You want more of that?”
“Oh yeah! Give it to me! Harder!”
The pillow over your head was not doing its job. Nor were the earplugs you had put in. You wanted to scream at them to shut up, but you knew they would just laugh and keep going. That’s what they did last time. And you were pretty sure they were only being as vocal as they were right now, because they knew it would bug you.
With a silent curse to yourself, you tossed the pillow to the foot of your bed and got out of it, trying not to see your room mate and her boyfriend as they went at it on her side of the room. You had learned early in the year that they weren’t shy, and so didn’t bother to cover themselves with a blanket while going at it, and hearing it was bad enough.
You grabbed your hoodie off the hook by the door, and left, fighting the urge to slam the door behind you. You walked over to the common area and flopped onto a couch. Glancing at your watch, you let out a groan of frustration. 3:07. And you had a class at 8. You were exhausted, because the two of them had been going at it like rabbits on and off since 11. They would stop, and just as you were about to doze off, they would start again. You swore that that man must be taking little blue pills in order to have the recovery rate that he did. Not that that mattered to you. All that mattered to you right now, was the fact that you needed to sleep, and your bed wasn’t an option. A quick glance one way down the hall showed that there were no lights on in any rooms there. Looking the other way, you felt a tiny flicker of hope. Way down at the end of the hall, Lin’s door looked like it was slightly illuminated. Not like the room light was on, but maybe a bed side lamp or something. You shuffled down the hall, too tired to lift your feet any more than that.
‘If this doesn’t work’, you thought to yourself, 'I’m sleeping on the floor here in the hall.’
You knocked softly on Lin’s door, not wanting to wake him if he was already sleeping. Sounds on the other side of the door right away told you that he was still up. The door opened part way, and Lin peeked out at you. “Hey Y/N, what’s up?”
“I can’t sleep, can I stay here?” You ask. “Please?”
Lin glanced over his shoulder, and you worried that maybe he had someone over and you were interrupting. “I have a single room…no spare bed…but…” He swung the door open, “You can have the bed, and Ill crash on the floor.” He ushered you into the room.
“No, Lin, I can’t do that. I wasn’t thinking. I forgot you have a single. My brain isn’t working, because I’m so tired. I’ll just go sleep on one of the couches in the common area…” You turned to go back out the door.
“Don’t be silly Y/N. I can’t let you sleep out there. What kind of a person do you take me for?” He took you by the shoulders and pushed you towards the bed. He grabbed one of the two pillows, and a blanket that was tossed at the end, then nodded towards the bed. “Go on, get in.” He turned and laid the pillow down on the rug next to the bed, making himself a place to sleep. “And tomorrow, you’re going to the RA and complaining about your room mate. Hell, I’m going to complain about your room mate. There were times I could hear them all the way down here…”
You sat on the bed and watched him make a bed on the floor. You shook your head. “Lin…no…stop.” He glanced at you. “I can’t let you sleep on the floor…” You glanced at the bed. “It looks big enough…we could share it. Even if its not the most comfortable thing in the world, its gotta be better than sleeping on a rug on the floor. And I promise I don’t snore, and won’t bite you or anything.” You gave him a small, very tired smile.
He looked at you for a minute, thinking it over, then finally nodded. While you crawled into the small twin bed, and squished over to one side as much as you could, he picked up his pillow and blanket, then came to the bed too. He laid his pillow down, and climbed into the bed next to you. He pulled the blanket up over you both, then turned on his side facing away from you and turned the lamp off.
You laid there, staring at the ceiling, trying not to move, but feeling really uncomfortable. Finally you shifted, trying to roll over on your side, facing away from him. The blanket came with you. “Oops, sorry…I’m a side sleeper…laying on my back was killing me…” You whisper in apology to Lin, tugging the blanket back so it could over him again.
“Its ok…get as comfortable as you can…” He whispered back. A few minutes later, you felt him rolling from his side to his back, and wiggling around a bit.
“You ok?” You asked, feeling terrible that you making it so he couldn’t get comfortable or sleep.
“Yeah, it’s just…I normally sleep facing that way…and…well…the pillow you’re using…I usually like…I dunno…kind of spoon it?” He whispered, a hint of embarrassment in his voice at the end. “Its the only way I can sleep…”
“Oh…” You replied softly. “Well….um…you could…I mean, if it would help…we could…spoon…” You offer hesitantly.
“Yeah?” He asked quickly, already turning to face your direction and resting a hand on your hip. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah. Totally.” You nodded, even though he couldn’t see you. A second later, he was pressed firmly against the back of your body. His arm slipped around your waist, and you could feel the soft sigh of contentment against the back of your neck as he let it out. You replied with your own happy sigh, as his warmth enveloped you. You had never slept with someone like this, and the feeling of him, holding you firmly in his arms like this, his body fitting perfectly to yours, it felt amazing and wonderful and safe. Your eyes fluttered closed, and you knew it wouldnt be long before you fell asleep.
“Maybe I won’t go to the RA Lin…maybe Ill just come here every night…” You joked sleepily.
“Sounds like a perfect plan to me.” He replied softly in your ear, tightening his hold on you slightly.
