The only conceivable way to make Enj a fashion designer is if he’s specifically doing it to make something that’s considered high end and inaccessible in a way that he can actually bring it accessibly to others who are both severely under represented in the industry and who would otherwise be unable to afford and get access to these kinds of high end designs. (Whole lines dedicated to wear that’s fashionably functional for those w/ mobility based disabilities made at actual affordable prices etc Sensory based fabric and color choices, all of them designed to be machine washable and threaded in ways where they don’t fall apart immediately so they’re not only affordable but hardy enough to be worth getting), that kind of thing
see, yeah, i was thinking that way at first and i think that kind of design credo works really well for feuilly! a man of the people making things for the people, doing that kind of sustainable adaptable homeless fashion thing that was going around, where the jacket is a blanket and a tent and whatnot? dope, v on brand, love it
but, and no disrespect obvs, it only seems like a good fit for enjolras in like. an alternate timeline society far removed from reality
because project runway takes place in america, a country wherein school shootings are only slightly less common than black men being murdered by law officials, the president casually commits treason, tries to suppress the media and has a hard-on for dictatorships, the vice president advocates conversion therapy, native land is being stolen and destroyed for projects that further destroy the planet and exacerbate climate change (something the president doesn’t believe in and openly mocks), ‘science is real’ is a controversial statement, a rapist was elected to the supreme court, smug white nationalists parade triumphant in their dumbfuck red hats, this is just off the top of my head and the tip of the iceberg but you get the point
in my opinion enjolras, living in the us right now, would not give a single solitary fuck about fashion in any capacity. it’s just not conceivable to me. like if you asked him he’d be like ‘yeah the fashion industry is fucked up, someone should do something about that, but i fucking wish that were the worst of our problems’
