It was a frigid winter night, the air was still and brittle, piercing like the thick coat of snow that blanketed the countryside. A fading crescent moon cascaded an eerie light that illuminated the snow like a mirror. Standing among the frozen landscape, the young demon gazed to the sky, silver strands dancing wildly in the billowing wind as the scent of the approaching demons filled the air.
“Is that them, Chichiue?” Sesshomaru inquired, not turning his gaze away from the distant lands that lay before them. Claws cracking in anticipation, ready to prove himself before his father, showing the older warrior he was indeed strong enough to wield the Tessaiga. This was his chance and the youth was not going to jeopardize it.
"My dear, I know that you have full run of the house, but next time a little warning would be appreciated." Standing amid a mess of cast off clothing and armor, he idly propped his hands over his naked hips and eyed her bemusedly.
𝑀𝑒𝓂𝑒 𝒜𝒸𝒸𝑒𝓅𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔: Please explain to my Muse why you’re naked.
[皮肉❀]:: “Why should I apologize for coming in to find you naked; when you roam throughout the house in your birthday suit completely unabashed by that fact as it is?
“Since when did you have dignity?”
“Worry not, for if father does not enjoy your misery, I can assure you I do, /little/ brother.”

The child would have little problem hearing the approach of the youkai this time, for his steps were heavy and the usual clatter armor sounded worn. Indeed he’d been gone for quite some time, taking off in a journey that took him over land and sea. Wherever ever his target fled, he’d been close behind and leaving a trail of death in his wake. It was a Wild Hunt like no other and his quarry, the Panther Demons would discover that there was really no place to hide from a determinedly Nightmarish Okuri-Inu.
Though this wild hunt was not without is cost to him. The reek of old blood clung to him like a morbid perfume, while dust and grime from nearly endless travel darkened his silver hair and caked over his skin. Even his mood seemed tattered upon arrival, instead of seeing his mate for a well overdue reunion he simply waved away the idea and handed the spoils off to be delivered to her. A generous bundle of treasure and the skulls of six panther demons that once made up the ruling family he massacred. Fresh from the mainland!
Thus it was with a heavy mind that he opened the sliding door of his chamber, never expecting the little one holed up inside until he pounced!
“Hn!” Stopping dead in his tracks it was all the old youkai could do to stop himself from reacting in a terrible way. As his eyes fell upon the pup attached to his hakama the realization washed over him and slowly he lowered his clawed hand.
He was home. Sometimes it took a bit for the gravity of that reality to sink in and override the on-edge instinct he relied upon while on a hunt. An instinct that only grew stronger the more blood soaked his path. However it taxed him heavily the longer he endured, leaving him empty and weary when it was all over.
To think the pup had caught him off guard and how did he react? Goodness he truly needed to rest if he was raising a hand to his own son! Drawing a deep breath he closed his eyes and consciously released his tension with an exhale.
This was home, where his whelp was patiently waiting. A soft smile followed that thought and as he opened his eyes once more he crooned with the warmth his pup deserved. “Good evening little one, I have missed you as well!”
Small claws met with dusty hakama, the scent of earth and blood perfumed his father and melded with his familiar, and otherwise woodsy, scent. But that hardly phased the child, hugging onto that leg, the child hadn’t even thought of the repercussions of ambushing a warrior such as his father. That was, until he felt his father’s leg tense beneath his grasp. A small sense of fear coursed through the youth, and cautiously he looked up to his father, noting the foreign expression upon his face.
Never once had the youth seen his father with such a feral expression. Claw raised, ready to attack, though Sesshomaru had always imagined it he never foresaw himself at the receiving end of those talons. Flinching for only a moment, he looked up at his father, though he never removed himself from the warrior’s leg.
Then, slowly, that clawed hand that had raised with the intention to swipe at the child began to lower itself. That feral, stoic, glare that adorned his father’s visage melted away to weariness, then to that same warm smile Sesshomaru was so familiar with. Watching his father, the child cant his head ever so slightly, unaware of the true danger he could have put himself in. The tragedy his father could have faced by merely acting upon instinct.
That deep baritone voice then broke the silence, catching the young child’s attention. Large, innocent, golden orbs met with those wise eyes full of warmth and care and almost instantly that fear Sesshomaru had only momentarily felt faded away. Burying his nose and mouth, his little arms squeezed his father’s leg in a hug, happy to be by his side once more.
“Where did you go, Chichihue?” the youth inquired, watching his father as his little nose went to work, sniffing at the soiled hakama with intrigue. “I asked Hahahue, but she only told me you went far away.”
Pausing in his examination, golden orbs peered to his father’s hand once more. Lashes flickered curiously as he studied those long, clawed, digits. Would he raise his hand again? Had the pup done something wrong by welcoming his father home in such a way? Though, this was not the first time the child had hidden in his father’s room, pouncing upon the older demon as he returned from one of his journeys. Why had this time been so different?
Returning his attention to his father’s face, he allowed himself some room between his father and himself. Golden orbs flickered up to the older demon’s gaze once more, expectantly, awaiting for a tale from his father as he always asked. Though he hated it when his father would leave, he always looked forward to another story about his father’s deeds of valor upon his return.
“My brother’s stench is quite unbearable.”
Sesshomaru screaming “fite me” in the distance.
