“we need more complex female characters” you couldn’t even handle her:
Minthe will forever be the original!
The last pic is by @anoldplace, who noticed that Persephone dresses like Minthe. Their post inspired me to look for more parallels and wow there’s a lot.
Do you think Lore Olympus would have gotten less hate if it wasn’t a Persephone/Hades retelling but instead a story with strictly original characters (that aren’t based off Greek Gods)?
Maybe, but people would have still gone after the story due to the age gap. Man, the fuss they kick up over that.
Persephone would've entered a massive May–December relationship no matter what, regardless if she hadn't ended up with Hades. Everyone in LO is much older than her.
Want to know something I find particularly ironic? The haters shipping Persephone with Minthe. Not because of a massive age difference (Minthe is probably not in her hundreds yet) between them. Rather, the character dynamic they would have had if they'd been an item: an abusive one.
People accuse the Persephone/Hades pairing of being super-duper problematic, but they're A-okay with Persephone/Minthe? Nothing problematique there, no siree! Persephone would've had nothing to worry about, I prommy, from Minthe — who was canonically abusive, and used the "who else would tolerate you but me?" tactic against her partner. No complaints from them here!
Jeez, make it make sense.
I just know Minthe would thrive as a OI protagonist.
Just point out the gross relationship of Persephone and Hades, don't make Hades the Ml and don't completely villainize Persephone and it would make the perfect female rage story.
Smoke in the face of Darkness.
A digital portrait of the Lore Olympus character Minthe. Honestly love a dark lady in black. Sue me.

Panel redraw :p
I've been rereading Lore Olympus with my SIL and I kinda forgot how bad it was. Anyways, I'm not here for discourse or whatever, I just want to share my fan character and some Minthe stuff because I adore her
Meet Zenon! (she/he) - She's a grove nymph that moved to the underworld and was the director of marketing for Pomegranate. He hates Hades and just about all gods, and is madly in love with Minthe
And I also drew Minthe as a Simpsons character
Talking about Minthe...
I seriously don't like Minthe's color scheme, or well... The shade of red that was used for her.
The first thing that comes to mind when I see her is a firetruck, if I'm being honest.
In my opinion, she would have looked better in a darker shade of red, or a shade of mint green.
I looked her up because I need reference images for her redesign and that's when I realized I haven't touched Lore Olympus in a very long time-
My mind's reaction: ... Why does her coloration remind me of a fire truck?
And then there's the way RS treated her in Lore Olympus...
She's clearly meant to be a horrible person, sure, but some of her actions were justified.
Sure, she was abusive in a way, but Hades was also abusive to her. Her being abusive wasn't an excuse for Hades to cheat on her.
Rachel could have made Hades just break up with her, but NOPE! She decided that cheating was way better than communication.
Not only that, but RS clearly characterized Minthe to seem like she was the only toxic person in that relationship.
She deserved so much better than what she got in Lore Olympus.
This panel just makes me feel so bad for Minthe. It doesn't matter how RS characterized her, she deserved way better.
