on the bill: sapient, illmaculate, goldini bagwell & load b
context: balls hot tuesday. concert was highlighting sandpeople's people and sapient's cd realease.
load b is a polished duo made up of local milc and brill that bring it hard. they carefully have paired their dark beats with serious rhymes that gives them a commanding tone. take for instance their well produced and executed youtube video, the nep hustle, which has got that classic gangster feel while also having a song "rebellion (stewart villain remix)" that has more a trill feel making any situation get turnt.
both have side projects which makes load b more of a conglomerate of talent than just a group. during their show they kept the beats trap and the energy high. brill brings his gravely deep voice that has a serious tone commanding attention. very reminiscent of dmx -- incredibly skilled and articulate with such a deep rasp.
milc is also just as serious in his game, but his voice is a little lighter. he has got fun rhymes like
ran outta jimmies but i'm still ganna pop that"
their stuff together takes a trap tone and they kick the beats up hard. already proving their talent as wordsmiths, load b also profiles their more club tracks, making them more dynamic. their beats make you wanna bounce and their lyric make you wanna pop some molly and get trunt.
goldini bagwell is another local mc. while he didn't stand out too much to me at the show, i listened to his recordings and enjoyed him better. goldini can spit fast and keeps a nice pace and flow throughout the beats. most of his songs had a easy 90s summer feel to them. like, i want to play "feeling good" while sitting outside drinking forties in the sunshine. i wanna roll around in the summer night listening to "eviction notice".
during his set he had multiple guest artist with different backgrounds which profiled his ability to adapt his rhymes and flows.
i have to say that i had seen illmaculate before and enjoyed him just as much if not more. illmaculat is a very talented and locally awarded mc. he has a tight spit and great beats with memorable hooks.
what stood out about all of them, not just illmaculate, they all use dope beats. they use an appropriate amount of samples. illmaculate's beats are usually instrumentally driven with old school samples. the title track off of "trainspotting" is a prefect example.
sapient is an established local rapper in these parts. not that the others aren't, or aren't well on their way, sapient is a front runner.
sapient's flow is effortless and his stage presence is polished and deliberate.
clearly a talented artist, his lyrics are approachable but still thoughtful and complex.
his stuff is perfect for a contemplative drive.
