Lammas - Ways to Celebrate🌾🍞🌾
Lammas, mainly celebrated on August 1st, is a grain harvest festival, sometimes called Loaf Mass. It marks the halfway point between summer and autumn. Here are some ways to celebrate the day.
🍞🍚🍝🌽🍿Prepare, eat, or decorate your altar with any grain-based foods, preferably of your local region or culture: rice, bread loaves (sweet or savory), grits, breakfast cereals, granola, oatmeal, porridge, quick breads, pancakes, biscuits, cookies, popcorn, tortillas, cornbread, pound cakes, millet, pastas, cream of wheat, couscous, barley, sorghum, quinoa, etc are all options.
🕯️🔥🎉Work with light. Light candles (you can opt for flameless ones), a salt lamp, or a small contained fire in your rites. Bask in sunlight if possible. Burn herbs if you'd like. Ignite sparklers. Use or wear scintillating fabrics or makeup. Hang out around a fire pit if it's safe and possible.
💄 Decorate your face and body with designs or colors that represent Lammas to you (optional). Solar symbols, grain symbols etc are recommended.
🎨 Use the colors red, yellow, gold, orange, green, amber, or russet in your altar, jewelry, body adornments, or clothing.
🍇🍏Eat / drink grapes or apples in their natural states or incorporate in pies, juice, and baked goods. Pour out juice, cider, or wine libations to the Elements and your ancestors as well.
💎🔆🔮Make a crystal grid or one made of herbs, flowers, and plants of your choosing. Alternately, you can wear gemstone jewelry or place flowers in your hair.
📻 Put on your summer playlist. Play music that resonates with the season.
🙏🌾🍯Toss grains or pour honey onto the earth, towards the Sun, and upon the grass as an offering of gratitude.
