i've been getting back into animal crossing lately!! specifically new horizons :) i'm super fixated on it at the moment and all i can think about is playing it with my f/os... sooo i'm going to dump a little headcanon list of how i think they would play with me!

elliott would definitely be confused about the mechanics at first!! so many buttons and controls!! well, that's if he even wants to play at all. he doesn't seem like the type of guy to pick up gaming. definitely more of the "i'm going to watch because this game is silly and it's extremely endearing watching you get so excited"!! either that or he'll sit next to me and work on his latest novel!! co-existing/parallel "playing" <3

i think elliott's favorite villager would be leopold!

reigen would totally play with me! i mean, have you seen that episode where he was working on an "exorcism" for a client and he was absolutely crushing it in that video game?? he was literally looking up different cheats and techniques. he would be a big fan of the time travel method to speed things up, especially with getting villagers we don't particularly like to move out hehe. i'd be so annoying with "can we do matching outfits pleaseeee" and he'd just go with it while i take a bunch of screenshots GUH.....

i think reigen's favorite villager would be marshal! (though i'll also throw in chief simply because that is definitely what reigen would look like in acnh haha!)

dedue is a bit complicated for me considering this game takes place in the imperial year of 1180 LOL. but for the sake of this hc, i'll modernize it :) i personally think he'd play with me! like elliott, he'll probably be a bit confused since he's not a techy/gaming guy at all. but he's a fast learner and would get the hang of the mechanics pretty quickly! he would do all the tarantula and scorpion catching for me... hehe...

i think dedue's favorite villager would be nate!

mateo would 100% play with me! i honestly think it would be one of his favorite games... considering it's about animals :) though i do think sometimes we would butt heads (playfully!) if i wanted to get a villager to leave... mateo is very much a kind soul and has such a huge heart he would feel bad getting rid of any of the villagers! he would definitely have different opinions on the villagers people usually hate on! genuinely i don't think he has one he doesn't like. they all deserve love in his humble opinion! i think that's where we have different opinions though...

i think mateo's favorite villager would be stitches! (his colors and patterns reminds mateo of the inanimals!)

💜 name a time (or multiple) when your f/o was your unwavering rock and solace. only if you're comfortable with sharing, what were you going through? how did your f/o support you?

a few years ago, i went through a pretty traumatic experience that i have just now gotten around to processing after using humor to cope with it for the longest time. it's been tough! elliott has been there for me through all my bad days though ever since we met and i couldn't be more grateful. he knows me well enough by now to understand what helps me through a depressive episode. gentle reminders to eat, cuddling and soft reassurances, and respecting my very specific boundaries that are usually hard for me to talk about are just a few of the things he's done for me.

🥞 what does your f/o admire about you? it can go beyond physical traits!

elliott admires my perseverance and strength. maybe not physical strength (i don't have a lot of that hehe) but definitely emotional strength! he loves that i can push through rough times and come out the other side stronger than i was before. and he also admires how much i've grown since we first met! i've done a lot of work on myself to be able to show up as the best version of myself for my loved ones, and i know he's proud of me :)

🍀 what does your f/o do when you're in an overstimulating/overwhelming situation? (e.g. in a large crowd, around loud noises, etc.) do they have any techniques to soothe you?

elliott is super good at reading me. he tends to know how i'm feeling before i even notice! he has super good intuition, especially when it comes to me. when he notices i'm feeling off, he immediately starts thinking of what the potential triggers in the area are. maybe there's a crowd, or loud noises. he'll guide me away from whatever is happening, whether it's suggesting to go home or step outside/away to get some distance from the situation. he'll usually keep a hand on me at all times to help ground me. maybe holding my hand or wrap it around my waist. stuff like that!!

OUGH MY GOODNESS I GOT SO MANY OF THESE!! rubbing my hands together like an evil fly.... i'm so locked in and ready to yap >:) I GOT YOU ALEX!!

also for dedue and elliott specifically- i'm going to talk about my self inserts in place of me!! i still see my self inserts as me, if that makes sense? they're like an extension of silly ol' me (with more lore hehe) and uhh reigen will just be me :) ANYWAYS...!!

🍁 how does your f/o help you when you can't sleep/can't stay asleep?

ohh goodness!! okay so esther (s/i) is able to fall asleep pretty quickly and easily!! the problem is them actually staying asleep. they have pretty awful recurring nightmares which causes them to wake up in the middle of the night. on the other hand, dedue is a very light sleeper. being dimitri's vassal for so long really trained him to be at the ready 24/7. so any movement esther makes in bed, no matter how sneaky they try to be, tends to wake dedue. it's become a pattern that both of them have grown accustomed to. esther will wake and sit up in a panic, and dedue with sleepily and gently reach out to pull them back down into bed. he'll rub their back and press soft kisses to the top of their head as they calm down, then securely wrap them in his arms when he realizes they're dozing off once again.

🍄 your f/o notices you're stressed/unhappy/not doing well and insists that they want to pamper you. what would that look like? do they do or say anything specific that only they would do? do they want you to tell them what you want, or do they plan the pamper session themself?

reigen? noticing I'M not doing well? he will NOT let that slide!! he might do a terrible job of being kind and gentle to himself but he will not stand for me following in his footsteps. i'm not the biggest fan of huge extravagant romantic gestures, especially if i'm already feeling bleh. and he knows that! so he would take me to his favorite ramen shop (which is conveniently mine as well) and let me order whatever i want. when we get home, he'll turn on one of his awful b-grade movies and wrap me up like a burrito in the fluffiest blanket we have and cuddle until we fall asleep :')

📚 what is your f/os love language? do they incorporate their love language into how they support you? (the main 5 love languages are; words of affirmation, acts of service, gift giving, quality time, and physical touch. though if you and your f/o have your own love language, please feel free to use that instead!)

elliott's love languages are quality time and words of affirmation!! he would absolutely enjoy cuddling up in bed and reading next to river (s/i) after a long work day while they do their own thing, whether it's crocheting or researching new flowers to plant. and he is 100% fantastic with words, considering he's a writer and all! he knows exactly what to say to soothe river and incorporate just the right amount of romantic silliness into his comforting.

i think i said it before, but elliott has such a soothing audio book narrator voice :') i know he'd read me whatever book he's reading at the time out loud and run his fingers through my hair as i drift off (˶◜ᵕ◝˶) AUGHHH i love this man

dedue definitely knows me very well, but also i'm an open book and super easy to read when i'm overstimulated and shutting down ^^; i get quiet and extremely irritable. every noise is too much and absolutely grating. if we're in a public space, he would rest a hand on the small of my back and guide me to a quieter area where he'd talk me through the breathing exercises we learned together. sometimes when i'm okay with touch, he'll take my hand and gently squeeze it, or wrap an arm around my waist and pull me into his side. it's very grounding!

☀️ your f/o surprises you with a gift after noticing how hard you've been working lately, and they need to express how proud of you they are. what's the gift?

ahh!! hmm... i think reigen would get me one of those cute silly charm you can attach to your phone! he knows how precious gifts are to me and i like to think he's aware that i treat it like carrying a little piece of him around, especially when i get anxious or upset :)!!

so, fun fact! before i officially got into stardew valley, i was ALL over elliott as a joke because so many of my friends disliked him and i just liked messing with them. but when i was finally able to pick up the game, i immediately fell in love with him. literally love at first sight (and dialogue hehe). i loved how warm and welcoming he is when you first meet, and his hair definitely drew me in LOL. it's so luscious and beautiful?? how could you not be obsessed?? the more i played, the more his romantic side came out and he literally swept me off my feet and i haven't touched the ground since :')

SO!! in sdv if you do his 14 heart event, he actually does write letters! they are SOOOO cute and make me giggle and kick my feet. he's absolutely the type of person to write about his day, even if it's super mundane. i know he'd have loopy, fancy handwriting when writing letters too! i think he lets himself get a little sloppy with his penmanship while he writes his stories since it is a LOT of writing. but he absolutely would make letters to me as pretty as possible :')
