On August 7, 1981, the animated film "Heavy Metal" was released. In contrast to many other countries, it was part of a small list of animated movies made for adults in North America. The anthology movie, only loosely tied together, was based on the mature illustrated magazine "Heavy Metal", which was the English translated version of the French "Metal Hurlant", pieces from "National Lampoon", and fiction. Due to issues with releases for the music, it took 15 years for the movie to be released on home video. The movie segments were "Soft Landing", "Grimaldi", "Harry Canyon", "Den", "Captain Sterrn", "Neverwhere Land" "B-17", "So Beautiful & So Dangerous", "Taarna", and the "Epilogue". No one is quite sure where The Great Evil came from, but its corrosive touch spans far into the universe. It is said that its travels span several millennium across the spans of space itself. Thanks to its eldritch power, several civilizations have destroyed others, while many have fallen from using the orb's power itself. While many loons worship this strange being, its presence in any nearby reality is a sign of the end times.
My power infests all times, all galaxies, all dimensions. But many still seek me out.

Heavy Metal: The Movie opinions time!
I first watched this movie with my mom when I was 12 (she actually called me away from my pokemon and MADE me sit down with her at watch it) The depictions of nudity and female sexuality, along with the violence made me more than a little bit uncomfortable, and I think that may have clouded my overall impression of the film. The impression I had, was that evil was something inescapable, surrounding, and near impossible to overcome, while my mother had a much different view. She told me that she saw the movie as hopeful, showing that the sacrifice of one generation is what gives rise to the next, and that no matter the evil, something will always arise to overcome.
Fast forward seven years or so, when I have this strange urge to watch it again and I realize that she's right. ...This happens a lot with things my mother says. IT is ultimately hopeful, even in the face of a great evil such as Loc-Nar.
To summarize, watch the damn movie.
