Hey everyone, this is like...... a SUPER local issue, and there's other way bigger issues going on in the world right now, but still, if you have a second to sign this petition, that would be great. You don't have to be Australian to sign it!
The issue is: my local beach has always had bins along the foreshore, meaning anyone with bags of dog poop or various food rubbish/takeaway containers/coffee cups/etc only needs to walk to the top of the sand to throw their rubbish in the bin.
My local council, without any community consultation whatsoever, has decided to remove all of those bins and instead put them all at the top of the cliffs, where the carparks are -- meaning that everyone has to hold on to their rubbish until they go back up the cliffs to their cars.
And of course..... loads of people will not do that. Loads of people will just leave their dog's shit, and their icecream wrappers, and their chip packets, and their coffee cups strewn around the beach. And any rubbish that ends up on the sand, is likely to end up in the ocean.
The council claim they've done this because the waste collection company (whose owner is friends with someone on the council, if I'm not mistaken) says it's too HARRRRD to drive their waste collection trucks down to the beach and collect the bins down there. It's way easier to collect them up the top. But tough shit, that's what we're paying you to do. If your company doesn't want to do it, there are others that will. So either collect the bins down on the beach, or get fired. Because otherwise, all our local beaches are about to become rubbish-strewn gross-scapes.
So!! If you could sign this petition, that would be fantastic. Xxx
