Just a little introduction…. I’m a freelance Comic Book writer, who is on the Autistic Spectrum.
Recently I have created an online Comic Book series called ‘Dasher’ on my website at GoodinMaginations and have been working very hard to create new issues of my series. Dasher is about a teenage Superhero who protects the residents of Blackpool from petty criminals. I have created a total of 4 issues up to now, which can be downloaded from my website, and I’m just starting Issue 5. When I began my Dasher Comic Series, I was influenced by the idea that children, however old they are, have the potential to be Superheroes because of the amount of energy they have. I have already developed my plan for a whole comic series on paper, for future issues yet to be created.
While I have been writing these comics, I worried about how people would react to them, not just because of my unique art style, but also because of my use of Adobe Photoshop. This concern gave me a reason to think about changing my method and art style, but then I realised that as an artist I shouldn’t change my own art style because that is what makes me, me! I realised that as a true artist, I respect the art styles used in all the other different comic books, and that my unique style would also earn the respect of others too! The lesson I have learnt is that the story is just as important as the art style and you have to be your creative self with no limits. It is not up to the reader to decide how you do your art style, or what software you use, that choice is yours as an artist. This is what makes you so unique!
One day I would love to be one of the artists at a ComicCon, I am attending the Liverpool ComicCon soon, on Sunday 2nd April, which I am looking forward to, and seeing all the other comic book artists who inspire me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post here on LinkedIn, and I hope you enjoy checking out my Dasher series on the website.
