what does the catholic church say about extraterrestrials?

Not much, but recently Pope Benedict XVI stated that the possibility of salvation was open to any intelligent beings from other worlds, if they do exist.

I believe the Church Fathers, specifically Augustine, say that any creature capable of rational thought must be treated equally, therefore the possibility of salvation is open to all such creatures. I could be wrong though. I'm mostly paraphrasing Augustine's City of God, which I haven't read in a while because of college work and stuff.
