Vice Minister Eduardo Sandoval Mendoza, in actuality, was under immense pressure. The president's resignation was already being called for after Pablo's escape, and someone had to take the fall for this mess. Congress was holding hearings to determine who was responsible. They thought a good place to start was grilling the guy who walked into La Catedral and was kidnapped by Escobar right before he fled. For four long months he was in and out of humiliating, televised investigations by the Colombian Senate until he finally resigned and left the country for New York City.
