Cartel Differences

The Cali Cartel was quite the opposite of the Medellin Cartel as shown in this clip. They were sophisticated instead of flashy and flew under the radar. It was clear by the territories they operated in. Medellin had Miami and Cali had New York. They had politicians and cops on the payroll allowing them to operate more freely. At the height of their power they had control of 90% of the world’s cocaine.

Cali Leaders

The Orejuela brothers, El Chepe, and Helmer Herrera, also known as Pacho, led the Cali Cartel. Although amicable at first, Pacho and Escobar soon became enemies after a dispute over turf and the protection of certain sicarios. Escobar attacked Pacho during a soccer match killing 19 men, but Pacho survived.
