An Ingressor’s warning to the Pokemon Goers.
You silly kids with your new little gadget thinking it’s the most revolutionary thing ever. Sadly not the case. Google released Ingress a few years back founded on the very same principle of ‘get out of the house, explore your city, and socialize with other players you may have never met.’ I loved it for quite some time and even had leveled up completely once, and halfway twice (when I lost access to my email due to bad recovery options)
I learned a lot in playing this location-based game--not all of it was good: so while this game is still fresh and exciting let me fill you in on what location-based-games will do to you. Take a good look, here’s your future.
No money-since your’e going to be spending it on gas/public transit/new shoes/food and drink/ubers to-and-from distant locations/plane tickets (YES-some people find joy in playing in other places...you may find yourself to be one of them)/parking tickets. Regardless of what you buy, you’ll be spending money on things that’ll keep you playing the game. Ingress was free and I still spent a bunch. From what i’ve heard Pokemon Go actually has In-app purchases.....good luck people, I’ll see you at the food bank.
No energy-you’re going to find that your obsession with ‘catching them all’ (protecting your portals to the Ingressors) will force you out into that world during whatever free time you have--even if its during the hours that you should be sleeping. You’ll find that you CAN’T sleep because you KNOW that there’s _____out there but it can’t be yours if you’re stuck inside.
You’re gonna look creepy/stupid/clueless-to other players you’ll make sense and stick out like a sore thumb. To everyone else you’ll look like someone wandering aimless while staring at your phone. If it’s night time, you’ll look as though you are doing something shady.. Remember-Not everyone knows what you’re doing. Prepare to explain what your game is to police officers. **I had to do it twice when I was wandering around city hall blowing up the blue meanies. #EnlightenedForever, and my friend was searched for drugs since he was standing in an unlit place for about an hour trying to destroy my resonators.
You’re gonna have no battery life for things you need- Remember up there when I said no money, after a while of this problem you’re going to spend that no money on battery packs or what have you...which won’t actually help you, they’ll just allow you to play longer. Either way one of these days you’re going to wind up miles away from home because you were paying more attention to your phone than your location. So get used to navigating the streets like people did 15+ years ago...without the payphones to call for help.
You’ll get unreasonably frustrated- Nothing’s worse than running out of pokeballs/XMPs when you need them most. Rather than going ‘damn, oh well’ and turning off your phone--what do you do? Run around like a mad person trying to fix that problem...and it’s during that panic that the game chooses not to give you what you need. You’ll find yourself bitching to someone who doesn’t care, OR someone who does and ‘get’s it’ but either way your emotional state hinges on the 0s and 1s that has begun to control your life.
You’re gonna begin to schedule your life around your game-the things you do, the places you go will begin to be determined on whether it’s a ‘good place’ to play. You’ll find yourself excited to go to those places, and reluctant to go to places that aren’t. Whether or not you do is up to how much you can put the game aside. Good luck.
You may end up on the wrong side of the law-Already I’ve heard of peopoel side-swiping cars, getting parking tickets (pulling over) and for “texting” while driving. These are nothing new--Ingress players set the bar for ‘legally questionable’ gameplay. One of us (a blue meany OF COURSE) was arrested for hoping a neighbor’s fence to destroy a resonator. Imagine what lengths people will go to if there’s a rare one on the other side of that fence. (I’ve literally been warned twice not to stand so close to the rear entrance to a police station...which sucked because that was the best way to attack it...digitally I mean.
You’re gonna meet a lot of people-this was one of the selling points of Ingress, the sociability of the game. But no matter how into it you are, there’s always gonna be someone who cares MORE...and for some reason you’ll run into them frequently. They’ll take the fun out of it. You’ll also meet the people who unknowingly (or maybe not) screw up your gameplay, (taking your stuff/losing your opportunities/being annoying and-or distracting) and your ‘social outing’ becomes one of those moments where you wish you had fewer friends....then at least you can play it correctly. Remember that ‘unreasonable frustration? Yeah, prepare to practice your breathing--these people will exacerbate it.
You’re gonna give up. Slowly but surely the above are gonna wear you down until you find yourself playing it casually until you stop playing all together. I don’t know much about PG’s storyline or progressive nature--Ingress was all about leveling and protecting/attacking, the only storyline was an (mostly) irrelevant website. But I’m sure PG has something of an actual quest thing. Which leads to problems. A) It’s simple so every player can reach it, B) it’s moderate enough that most players can beat it or C) it’ll be challenging so only the ‘best that ever was’ can beat it. A) You’ll get bored, B) you’ll end up replaying it over and over again, or C) you’ll get unreasonably frustrated and give up. No matter the scenario, the game will get old I promise you that.
*Author note-I have not played PG so therefore I can’t make a post specific about it, so before I get the unreasonably frustrated messages of You haven’t even PLAYED IT! YOU DON’T KNOW! please reread the part where I say that these are problems inherent to location based game play.
DECODED BY JAY Z X BING
Advertising agency Droga5 had the unique task of teaming two major brands and creating a collaborative campaign that fuzed the two with a compatible and central purpose.
Beginning with Jay Z's book Decoded, Droga5 drew the significance of his personal links to his hometown of Brooklyn and the New York area. Not only did they recreate each page from the book, but transformed each page as a part of the location's environment.
The Decoded campaign generated value to the cultural significance of New York and its role in the history of Rap and Hip Hop. Introducing Bing-Maps as a tool to track and explore these locations, the targeted demographic of Gen Y players utilised Bing's newly developed augmented reality technology.
Droga5 Art Director, Jon Kubik translated each page into a creative design solution from the inner linings of a Gucci jacket to plates at Jay Z's own restaurant. The diverse range of mediums constructed an engaging yet consistent vision.

Online Shooting Game: Fire in the hole!
Up until a few years ago, online gaming referred to flash based games with 2 dimensions only. Defending the city against alien laser attacks, playing billiards or making the monkey jump for a banana! Well if it was the 1990’s it would have been cool but we’re truly an internet rich generation. We have devices that lets us access internet on the fly, well just don’t read them for emails or Facebook. We use them for online games, be it any genre
The Genre that thrills most people is which adds element of surprise. For me, that genre is a shooting game. My favorites back in the day included Counter Strike & Call of Duty but the trouble with those games was, even if it was on LAN, you had to be in your room, near your console or PC to play them. It’s no longer suitable coz everyone wants to venture out more, not just be a bore & sit on your kickass gaming console.
My idea of perfect gaming experience is on smartphones like iPhone. iPhone is one versatile gadget that acts like your phone, entertainer, music player, status symbol & unending source of joy. I had been looking for that perfect Online Shooting Game that binds you till eternity. Normal sniper games are just amateurish. I happened to stumble upon this wonderful game called Assassin Live that brings a whole new experience to the world of FPS games.
Assassin Live has blown me way like a grenade through a narrow alley. This game is so realistic; you could never imagine something like this was possible. Smart gaming mind & use of tech is worth a round of applause. Some key features:
GPS based game: This game utilizes iPhone’s onboard GPS system to locate your targets. The mapping is so efficient, it beeps on you to update your target lists in close proximity (within 50 meters), Along with threat details & time to reach target on foot. Assassin Live has literally live, just make sure you climb the ladders to be the ultimate assassin of the game.
Clan Mode: You could chat with your clan, some players that you can add to your group to make yourselves stronger. This mode allows you to add users to collectively take down targets & protect yourself from security breach. Group chat with your clan & discuss strategies to effectively reduce your threats. This Online Shooting Game is all about being the best in business.
Portable: Available on iPhone, you play this astonishing game on the move. You will be alerted if you approach a target in a mall, fast-food center or on the streets. Missions are local, national & international. Just plot your strategy & keep your eyes open!

Assassin Live is the new GPS based iPhone tag game. Add a bounty to your friends head, hunts your enemies and be careful while you weave through the streets trying to find your escape.
Now here's a great concept for a location based game - ARG zombies. They haven't launched the game yet but they've just started a Kickstarter campaign to fund it's development. You basically donate an amount and get some bonuses when the game launches. There are bigger amounts that gets you game credits and let's you become part of the creative process whether through a zombie type concept or some special thing on your location. This has the potential to be huge!
