Mayuri rarely sleeps. Normally, this doesn’t really affect him due to the modifications to his body. He doesn’t need to sleep more than once a week. However, when it gets close to the point that he needs to sleep, he gets into a darker and darker mood. Probably because he has nightmares. Nothing specific, but he always wakes up suddenly, feeling scared and anxious. He hates sleeping because he things those emotions are pathetic.
Mayuri and Kenpachi have an odd sort of rivalry going on, where they both dislike each other, but would probably miss one other if they weren’t there; even if they only miss he weird completion they hold for most scary and weird captain. They both also enjoy their vicious banter. They can take low blows with each other and not worry that the other will take it personally.
Mayuri cares about Nemu in his own way. That is a rough, cruel and unusual way, but that’s the way he is with everything. He is actually extremely protective in his own rights. He wouldn’t hesitate to take down anyone with ill intentions toward her, but he would be very sneaky so no one would think he was being affectionate or anything.
Despite misconceptions, Mayuri normally only experiments on volunteers. These volunteers are well-compensated and treated with respect. Because they are willingly furthering his work, he has a tendency to be fond of them. Secretly, of course. He will even check up with volunteers to assure there are no lasting side effects from his experimentation.
