Nyph shivered as he trudged up the pathway to the rather warm-looking summer house. His wings were just way too cold to keep flying. And... well, he had a little package to keep warm. Currently, the baby was on his back, wings clamped around him, and a coat on top of that. The baby was warm anough, but Nyph’s toes had long since gone numb, and he still shivered. Every now and then he made the softest of peeps in his sleep, letting Nyph know it was still breathing okay. The grown harpy could feel the chick’s breathing on his back anyway.
Poor little thing has been through a lot, it was no wonder he’d fallen asleep as soon as he was safely tucked under Nyph’s wing. The images of what he’d seen on the mountain flashed through his mind’s eye before he shook his head to clear them. The bruises and scratches reminded him enough of that. And his torn clothes. Overall, he was miserable, but... well, he’d saved the kid. And learned there were other harpies here. Harpies that were... not very happy to see him. It was a roller coaster of emotion, but as he heard another one of those soft peeps, his thoughts were brought back to what on earth he was going to do with this chick.
He reached the doorway, shoulder slumping in relief as he pushed his way inside and was met with warm air. “Hafi?” he called for his boyfriend. Man. How was he going to explain all this? “Hafi, I’m back! I’ve, uh... got a surprise for you.” The coat, soaked with snow, was the first thing to go, discarded on the floor to be dealt with later. This earned a disgruntled squeak from the chick as the movement jostled him out of his sleep, though Nyph could tell he was already trying to resettle himself.
