"No, no, that's not what I was thinking."

She raised an eyebrow. Pepper thought that she could read people pretty well, but not this guy. “Then what were you thinking?” Her slender finger pointed. “Cause that was our turn.”

Years and years passed already. Zoe looked pretty much the same, just a lot more mature. Leaving the X-Mansion wasn’t an easy step for her. It was the first place where she felt a loving family supporting her, teaching her how to go on in this hateful world. But still, she felt like a threat, like a ticking bomb. It was better for everyone to just stay the hell away.
7 years. The girl was 25 now. Pretty, but silent. Mostly reserved, and anxious, about the possibility of someone else following her steps. Still, she could have a normal, very muted life. A work in a library, a lonesome apartment. Nothing else to ask for. It felt nice to live like that.
After a small visit to a museum, it was dark already, stars shining above the city. She walked alone, or at least she thought so, a hoodie giving her warmth and carrying stuff in a backpack. Zoe then heard a few steps behind her back, her heart starting to race. Nothing could be heard in her mind, she tried to block the telepathy as much as she could to feel human.
“Who... Who’s there?” She asked to the silhouette, a little blinded by the street’s light that could be seen from the dim alley.
