Well, the rattlers are collected from all around our little town about a week before the event and their venom is extracted. I think it is used to make anti-venom or something, I'm not sure. Anyway, then the snakes are placed in a big pen in the center of the event. It goes for a few days and there are bands, a beer tent, some rides for kids, and a bunch of vendors. Well, not really a bunch. It's actually a fairly small thing.
At the end of the Round-Up, the snakes are released back into the woods. The actual "town" part is really small, there's like one main road and then maybe (at most) five streets coming off of it so there are actually way more woods around here than there would be a town-like setting. Then there's a big long road that takes you out into the woods from the main road and into the gamelands. That's the road our farm is on and that's where they pluck most of the snakes from.
It's a very redneck shindig. I guess I shouldn't talk - my sister and I arrived in the bed of my husband's sublime green 70s truck.
