Does anyone else remember that stupid viral ad Nickelodeon made for pro-bending sometime in Book 1? I’m trying my best to forget about it but sometimes the phrase “KORRA THE DESTROYA” pops in my head like a horrifying intrusive thought that refuses to leave.
Hello, what career path do you think Lin Beifong would have chosen if she didn't join the police force?
This is such a good question because a major part of Lin’s character is that she became a police officer in a large part due to pressure from her mother, so if you remove that past it becomes really hard to imagine who Lin would be.
I guess you could look at her sister Suyin, who made it a point to rebel against Toph’s expectations entirely and therefore had a little bit more freedom exploring and choosing her career path. I could definitely imagine Lin finding something physically challenging like dance really satisfying, just like Suyin did. I could also imagine her being an athlete, even a pro-bender, like Korra. Tenzin did say Korra is a lot like what Lin was like as a teenager, so maybe if Lin had the same supportive parental figure as Korra that’s the career she would have preferred.
The other thought I have is that Lin also definitely has a strong sense of loyalty, duty, and justice, even in absence of her mother’s career influences. So I could also see her staying in public service. I don’t know if that would mean she’d be a police officer after all, or something like a politician (I could see that she’d like to win arguments and be right all the time), but definitely something that feeds that sense of duty towards the public.
“The Avatar and the Firelord” is legitimately one of the best episodes of ATLA but it's also an episode of a Nickelodeon show. So like midway through there's that joke where Aang literally poops his pants and it takes me out of it towards the end when the Gaang all hold hands and contemplate the transcendence of friendship because in that touching moment, Aang must really, truly smell awful

How did you like Book 2: Spirits's finale? I'm not asking in comparison to Books 3 or 4 since I'd rather keep that discourse on the down low if possible. Mostly in terms of themes, Korra's growth as a character and how enjoyable it was in general. Many aren't keen on this season (to say the very least) and the finale can be a sticking point from what I've seen.
While Book 2 isn’t my absolutely tip-top favorite season of LOK as a whole, its finale absolutely is my favorite part of LOK. It’s cinematic and beautiful visually, musically, and especially thematically, and so wonderful to Korra as a whole!
I’m going to take this ask to share an anecdote that I don’t think I’ve shared on my blog yet? A while back I was watching Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons with my family, and at the end of the movie the protagonist achieves enlightenment and this helps him defeat the bad guy, and it’s just kind of a visually stunning moment that has parallels to the Book 2 finale. And when all of it was happening my brother was like “This is just like the BEST part of Legend of Korra”, which it is and was! The Book 2 finale is the best part of Legend of Korra! My family stans the Book 2 finale very hard.
The bloodbending episode of ATLA was branded as a Halloween episode and one of my favorite Halloween-related memories was watching it with my siblings in a dark room together late on a Friday night
I had a dream a trailer for a new version of Book 4 came out (not Book 5, just Book 4, again, for some reason) and it was actually really cool???
My favorite part was that Asami’s glove was modified– it could still electrocute people, but different “cores” could be inserted into this round part on top:
And that would allow the glove to act as a sort of rudimentary form of bending. For example, a fire core could be inserted to make a sort of localized flame thrower that could act as pseudo, short-distance firebending. At one point there was something called a healing core that had spirit water in it that allowed Asami to heal Korra when her shoulder was burned.
