YALL. Yall.
Okay rewatching Loki and. I just realised. S1E3 the song he sings, the iconic Very Full hun synger hun synger kom hjem, the lyrics translate to "when she sings she sings come home," and that just sounds like a nice little Norse song, but if you go to the bridge of the song where the story bit is, the lyrics are, "I eplehagen står møyen den vene/ og synger: når kommer du hjem?" Which translates to "in the apple orchard the maiden stands the vein and sings: "when are you coming home?"
He's singing a song about going home. When is he going home? Someone, somewhere, singing, when are you coming home? He's still thinking about it, even after he worked it out and after Mobius told him directly that he can never go home. He's still hopeful that someone wants him to come home, and that he'll make it back. It's not even "will you come home," either, it's, "when will you come home".
I dunno that just hits all the more hard after the finality of s2
