Headcanon 1/2:
How would Loki feel about a s/o who's into the arts? Painting, poetry, etc but is shy or hesitant to share them (even with him) from past comments that were hurtful (happened a long time ago but stayed with them)?
Loki would be patient with you.
After all, he understood what it was like to be mocked for your talents. He didn’t want to push you.
If you were a dancer, he would take you to practices but knew the rule was “no recitals” unless told otherwise.
If you were a painter/drawer, he would stay out of your study until you came out.
If you were a poet, Loki wouldn’t even think twice about leaving your desk after bringing you tea/coffee/beverage of choice.
He knew you were insecure about it; he didn’t really have a place to judge given that he hadn’t actually seen anything you’ve expressed, but he knew that if it came from you it couldn’t be all that bad.
He does have his own tastes, after all, and if you’re excellent, he’ll tell you exactly how much talent you’ve exuded (even if it’s not his style).
“Darling, I have faith in your abilities,” he’ll say if you come out frustrated. He’ll give you a little kiss on the head.
When you finally get the courage to show him what you’re working on or what you’ve finished, he sits and soaks it in to give you every single piece of constructive criticism you can get.
“The linework is nice but the colors are flatter than your other pieces. Perhaps take a break for a little while and come back to it; you’ll get frustrated and ruin the piece. Other than that, I don’t see anything wrong with it. You’re improving.”
“Perhaps you should slow that last move down — it would fit with the music, my love.”
“You’ve used the word here before… I believe it would sound better repeated, but I know that’s not what you’re trying to do. Do you have another word with the same elegance?”
You know, nice things and helpful things instead of the usual “WOW”s
When his criticism is edging on harsh instead of gentle, he’ll rub your back and continue looking at the piece or running your dance through his head a few more times.
“Don’t think it’s bad. Ever. It’s absolutely fantastic the way it is, but I know you want above fantastic.”
His words never have a cruel undertone like your previous relationships and commenters.
Once you had explained the times people had laughed at your works, how they had compared it to a child’s, Loki understood immediately why you were so reluctant to share.
He would have done the same if he was being honest.
“Look, my love, I’m always impressed.”
“Don’t look at me like that. How could I lie to the person I love the most?”
He’ll start painting with you to show you some of his techniques if you asked.
Loki would learn how to pas de deux with you just to make sure you were comfortable.
He would never just become disinterested in your lifework.
