Music and video by Lasse Lokoy Dancers: Ingrid Mullis and August Fossmark
A slinky summer infused banger Malibu serves a delightful introduction to Bergen based singer songwriter Lokoy (Slotface) who collabs with fellow bedroom-pop artist girl in red (Marie Ulven). Watch the artful visual treatment and then tell five of your best mates and get them to tell five of theirs on and so on.
I just stepped outside the office briefly and it’s cold, overcast, and kind of misty again, as it so often is here. I could really use a trip down to Malibu. Just in time for that craving comes this whimsically wagging, warm chugging debut from Lokoy, the solo project of 21 year old songwriter, musician, and producer Lasse Lokøy, who’s also the bassist in Norwegian pop punk collective Sløtface. The sound he gives us on his first single is night and day from his other project. Malibu is a woozy kaleidoscopic, playful cavorting indie pop song featuring lo-fi bedroom guitar pop artist Girl In Red on partnering vocals. The track was mixed by Odd Martin Skålnes – also hailing from Norway’s West Coast, and much renowned for his recent work with Sigrid and Aurora. Of Malibu, Lokoy states: "It's about a relationship which is harmed by external factors and how those surroundings can complicate a situation that is fairly uncomplicated to begin with... Sometimes, it’s hard to rise above your position and view things independently, because you will always be defined in relation to your surroundings.” Malibu is out now on Propeller Recordings.
