Saarai is a strange one...it's mostly the latter though. I don't think she fully understands what Lana sees in Staz, but is willing to follow her partner anyway because she trusts her judgement and because the fact that Vitiate was camping out in Staz's brain...well then Saarai felt it was imperative to get that bitch out ASAP. Common goal, if you will. It takes until the end of KotET for Saarai to actually be like "Well...okay well I see why Lana put you in charge" and she sticks around after that.
