Growing up during the Obama administration set my standards too high for how a leader ought to act.

Yeah he had a lot of issues just like any other president. I just assume that anyone willing to be president of the United States is at least slightly evil.

But at least he spoke in coherent sentences and at least pretended to have a shred of empathy. He surrounded himself with people that were so boring and competent that you didn’t need to hear about them most of the time.

Anyways, the current guy in charge is incredibly anti-empathy and his attitudes bleed over to his fanbase. There’s a huge chunk of people who think that being nice is lame now. Cruelty is the point.

It’s like, the people making decisions right now are promoting being cruel. To an extent I haven’t really seen before.

And I’m tired, I’m tired, I’m tired.

For better and for worse, the president of the United States isn’t just a guy who makes decisions. He’s also the ceremonial guy. The spiritual leader. Breaking bottles on ships and pardoning turkeys. Alleviating fears. Setting examples. Setting trends, even.

And what trends is this guy setting? AI generated videos of him literally shitting on the country he’s supposed to be leading. Spreading racist rumors. Antagonizing our closest and most beloved allies.

So excuse me if I have the capacity to be upset about all of that at the same time as all of the other stuff. Excuse me if I miss a little bit of the days where they were planting gardens instead of tearing down historical buildings for their vanity projects.
