London Gateway Deep Sea Container Port Opens
London Gateway, situated on the north bank of the River Thames, has opened. It can accomodate the largest cargo ships in the world. When running at full capacity, it will be the U.K.'s second largest port, employing 12,000 people and handling more than 3 million containers every year.

worker has died on Gateway site

A construction worker has died while working at the London Gateway port construction site in south Essex.
The man died yesterday at the site being converted into a £1.5bn deep water port.
The £400m contract for the first phase of the job is being run by a joint venture of Laing O’Rourke and Dredging International.
