Suede - A visual interpretation of Introducing the Band.
Inspired by the song Introducing the Band from the album Dog Man Star by Suede. Suede was my first musically obsession and defined my teenage years. The album Dog Man Star is still one of my favorite albums.
To me, the song “Introducing the band” is a perfect opening song. It presents the whole album and introduces the overall theme and vibe, like: Political and sexual violence, drugs, and suburban despair, all rolled up in a chanting introduction to the band, and the album.
If you know the song, you can probably see which part of the lyrics I was going for, but the opening lines are:
“Dog man star took a suck on a pill, And stabbed a cerebellum with a curious quill”
I remember the first time I heard Suede on the radio, I was 11 and the song was Filmstar. I was instantly hooked, and “Coming Up” was the first album I bought because I wanted to, and not because I was following a trend.
They came to define who I was in my teenage years and young adult life. They opened up a whole new world of bands to me that I hadn’t been exposed to before, and I will forever be grateful for that. They kept me somewhat sane during my angsty teen years, and I met some amazing people through their music. I even met the band a couple of times as well.
I don’t think I’ll ever feel as strongly about something ever again, but hey, that is what teenage years are for, and I’m happy I got to experience that kind of obsession, and feel a sense of belonging when it was most needed.
So yesterday was the first of Inktober, but I thought instead of drawing random doodles everyday, I would come up with a theme to make it easier for myself. So I’m going to post a drawing a day inspired by a song or album that has had an impact on my life in some way. This also gives me the opportunity to just talk about music for a month, which is basically all I ever want to talk about tbh ;-)
(Just hope I can keep it up for the whole month, since I’m not one to follow through.. But here goes nothing.)
