Eh, but their bodies are hooked up to the simulation too, so it follows their whole brain is hooked up. If the avatars are only memories then they wouldn’t go into a coma after dying in the sim. Their previous memories were brought out but I don’t think the game ever suggests that they are ONLY their memories. If it does, maybe it was a poor translation, cause nothing else in the game suggests that.
That’s exactly what I’m saying. The way it’s *documented* suggests the creation of avatars from memories and server-side processing, but the actual text suggests the interpretation we agree on -- that they’re experiencing these events “client-side,” i.e. in their own brains, and in turn the “re-upload” step is unnecessary and leads to the cascade failure of O:JAM and a recontextualization of what Junko is actually up to.
