Sounds familiar. My mom sulked at me for changing my first name because she “picked it for its meaning”; apparently the reasoning of “Well I didn’t pick it, and I don’t like it” doesn’t sit well with parents :’D

I mean I can understand why they might be a little upset but??

Man if it was that special I figured my parents or my immediate family would've called me by it at least once. I think you have to be eighteen to change it though so assuming I have enough money that's gonna be my birthday present to myself this year.

haha, i dreamed of having a daemon as a kid too!

the amazing thing about his dark materials is that it was an even better read after i grew up. i mean, it's an amazing children's series, but it has SO many subtleties and implied meanings and underlying complexity that i could only pick up as an adult. i think HDM is the perfect example of "all ages" literature, because it will have a deep impact on you no matter how old you are
