yeah yeah no problem. basically a while back a gravity falls coloring book was announced, and today disney hyperion (the publisher) posted a picture of a two page spread saying “happy pride!” the images, which can be found here (https://twitter.com/DisneyHyperion/status/880929222981599232), show 9 of “mabel’s future matchmaking projects”, 4 of which are male/male couples. 

there are a number of issues here, most of which i have already posted about, but which i’ll try to summarize:

none of the queer couples include main or even secondary characters.

the queer couples are all male/male.

when this was mentioned, writer emmy cicierega tried to defend it saying “there weren’t enough female characters in the same age range” and that they “tried to base the couples on similar interests”, which is bullshit

one of the queer couples is the town’s embarrassment toby determined and a life coach. let’s make the pathetic horrible creep whos been shown to hit on a cardboard cutout of a woman one of our four (4) examples of a queer couple.

they exclude their gay-coded main characters, stanford and tyler cutebiker

on a more personal note, in what universe does mabel pines see fiddleford x lazy susan as superior to fiddleford x stanford…… when have the two ever even interacted

trigger warnings for cgl, csa, and grooming

several days ago, i made a couple of very angry posts about the recent memeification of ddlg. they werent terribly coherent--i was really upset at the time--but im going to try to go into why its wrong, and cruel, a little more here.

the sexualization of children and the fetishizing of child rape and incest isnt funny. those of you who make these jokes, i understand where youre coming from. you think youre making fun of kinksters. however, what many victims and survivors hear when youre making these jokes is “what happened to you was funny. people getting off to your abuse is funny”, and that is obviously wrong. the intention of the joke doesnt matter. what matters is how it affects the people who did actually go through that abuse.

im very genuinely worried that because of ddlg “jokes”, it will eventually become as mainstream as bdsm. (i have a problem with that too, but thats a different subject.) ddlg isnt just another flavor of bdsm--it is the roleplay of a child and a caregiver in a sexual relationship. for obvious reasons, this kind of thing should not be allowed into our mainstream culture. say a ddlg counterpart to 50 shades of grey emerged, it is entirely likely that children would be exposed to that! they could believe that this is a normal and healthy part of sex, or its to be expected, and equally as likely, predators will use it to groom vulnerable children and teenagers into believing that this is ok! that the abuse theyre experiencing is normal, and ok, or even desirable.

the ddlg “aesthetic” is frequently used to groom real children or teenagers, and creating an environment that says “this kind of thing is ok, normal, healthy, etc”, allows for real child predators to slip through the cracks and gain access to vulnerable minors. relatedly, creating an environment where jokes about ddlg are not only accepted, but celebrated, keeps victims and survivors from speaking up for fear of being ridiculed. 

and i know some of you may say, “but what about csa v/s who are using sexual cgl roleplay for coping?” there are better ways to cope. sexualizing or acting out your trauma will not make it go away, it wont make it hurt any less. i understand completely why you think it would, but please believe me that it wont. retraumatizing yourself and saying “its ok, i liked it this time so its ok”, doesnt mean it is. it might feel empowering in the short term, but down the road its very possible that youll regret it, or you may find that youre much worse off than you wouldve been otherwise. please be kind to yourself, and seek help if youre able. you deserve to heal.

and this is a very long rant about why i like the purge

also something i really liked about the purge is how... horrifying the violence is? like, that should be a given, its a horror movie, but like. in a lot of horror movies the point is not to scare you, really? its like. the horror genre is now as bad as action wrt glamorizing and even rooting for violence, in lots of slasher movies for example were kind of supposed to WANT these horrible characters to die, like look at these fornicating drug-doing ne’er-do-wells, this guy in a mask is going to kill them now, and we want them to die because theyre awful flawed human beings that do bad things and we want our children to learn that being a sex having, drug doing, delinquent is bad and if you do these things jason will kill you. but in the purge the violence isnt something you WANT to happen. like the writing, the framing, the acting, its all very... anti-violence. the whole premise is. when violence happens on screen is very ugly, very cringe-inducing, as it should be, because whats happening is horrible and unjust and because it takes place in a not-distant but exaggerated and clearly wrong future shows that this thing thats happening right now, its bad. its scary. its suspenseful. its suspenseful because you care, because you dont want this future to happen, and you want to know that everything is going to be ok. and like i said, the purge AS A MOVIE, is not great, but i think the concept is really good and i would love more horror movies with a social commentary aspect aside from “lets punish these teenagers for doing normal teenagery things”

i really, really hope cartoons get their oomph back soon because like, there are actually a few really good cartoons out now!!! like cartoons are still overwhelmingly “adventure of the week, next week it will be the same and nothing will change, but heres a lesson for now”, which is pretty much what theyve always been, but like. now cartoons are actually starting to have over-arching plots and like THATS SO COOL, but most right now do not, do that, but im really hoping soon for like. more plot-driven stuff that you can really sink your teeth into and learn a whole bunch about the universe and you STILL WONT KNOW EVERYTHING. but like, old cartoons, like from when i was a kid, i cant think of any one that had a plot outside of “here are some characters, here is the setting they will be in for ONE EPISODE, this is what they will do for ONE EPISODE, nothing that happens in this ONE EPISODE will matter at all come the next episode”. anyway i like, plots, and stories, and worldbuilding. more of that in animation, please.

i had a dream that like. the world wasnt ending but it was changing a lot?

giant clay hands were starting to reach down from the sky and give people what they needed, the us government had collapsed and i was with my dad and brother and we were all trying to get to florida so i could be with cori. for whatever reason our car wasnt working though so we decided to hitchhike and a car pulled over, and the dude inside was like. idk weird and pathetic and lonely and he said hed drive us where we needed to go as long as i sat in the front seat with him and i was like, fine im not above flirting to get what i want, so we were all driving and his fliriting is like. really pathetic and terrible but im giggling and lightly hitting his arm anyway like i love it and then he asks me to kiss him and i was like, nope. nuh uh, not doing it, and then my dad tells me to just do it so we can get where we need to be and i was super annoyed but i did it anyway and it was terrible, he used way too much spit it was disgusting. and i dont remember what happened after that but i guess i got annoyed and pissed off with him and snapped and said some truly mean things and he started crying and pulled over in a parking garage and covered me with dust, and then he pulled over in front of some people sitting at a fold out table and said he needed something and i guess they were like, a secret society that granted people wishes, and they said sure but they “needed a dirty cloak from a long journey” and they all looked at me like, cough up, and i told them “this is my jacket! and you know he got it dirty right” but they didnt care so i rolled my eyes and gave them my jacket  i guess because i felt bad about what i said even though all of it had been absolutely true. then i went up to the folded table people and i asked how i could get my jacket back and one of the people told me “honey, that jacket is awful. we did you a favor taking it away from you” and i was like, but thats my jacket??? i felt weird without it it was my security blanket and i was really anxious with my bare arms exposed and i was like “whatever” so we decided to like, live in the parking garage i guess? and we were trying to get some food but i kept dropping my food and it was upsetting me. the end.

why do you enjoy tumblr: its easy to have low maintenance friendships on here and keep up with whats going on in peoples lives without having to talk to them, which is ideal for me. i like knowing whats going on but talking to people is hard most days and i cant always do it so its nice to just be able to back read an make sure someone you care about is ok without having to talk to them to get the information
