In 1969, a one-off Aston Martin Lagonda V8 Saloon Prototype (MP230/1) was designed by William Towns for chairman Sir David Brown. The wheelbase was stretched by 12 inches (305mm) compared to the two-door DBS V8. Initially fitted with a 5.0-litre prototype V8, it was later replaced with a 5.3-litre production V8. It was the forerunner to the seven Series 1 production Lagondas that used a different nose with two rather than four headlamps.
