MASCARA WARS! Is Tarte's Lights, Camera, LASHES Mascara a Winner?
The past two days has just more sickness and headache. I had such high hopes for 2015 but, so far, I've done nothing but battle the flu, migraines, and general malaise, wah, wah, wah, I know. It must just be the season or all the pent up stress from the past few months before my Christmas wedding. Who knows why my immune system is working so hard, but I'm sick of lounging around barely doing more than washing my face.
So, what do I do to make myself feel a teensy tiny bit better? Throw on some of Tarte's Lights, Camera, LASHES mascara with a bit of foundation, eyebrow mascara, and cheek stain and head to the beach on a gloomy winter day to find more sea glass for an upcoming project I'm working on.

(Apologies for the blurry photos, dim lighting and a shaky selfie do not mix. )
Consistency:
Lights, Camera, LASHES is a fairly "dry" mascara that sets pretty quickly. It's not matte by any means but it doesn't look very glossy upon the lashes either, which is what a wet formula mascara would look and feel like.
I'm not using Tarte's water-proof version but the dryness of this mascara seems to help prevent any melting due to rain or humidity (I spent a few hours on a misty beach dodging waves and seagull poop wearing this stuff). The product's description claims that the mascara is "conditioning" which I don't argue against, however, I didn't really notice much of a difference in my lashes either. If you have damaged eyelashes and try this mascara out, let me know if you felt any kind of conditioned results.
Longevity:
As I mentioned above, I wore this mascara on a rainy day without any problems whatsoever. Over Christmas I wore Lights, Camera, LASHES everyday and never once noticed flaking or smearing even after a good 10 or 12 hour wear.
The Wand:
The wand is thin and evenly cut with a slightly tapered end that works well for coating the lower lashes. I like how the spoolie isn't that pokey rubber material but real bristles which help prevent clumpy application.
Length & Volume:
Compared to a lot of the other mascaras I've used recently, Lights, Camera, LASHES is smack dab in the middle of both the length and volume spectrum of mascaras. It doesn't lengthen and volumize to the point where you feel like you're wearing eyelash extensions but it definitely does give some noticeable volume and length. Perfect for a day at the office, running errands or marathon shopping sessions.
Packaging:
The tube is a fake plastic "snake-skin" texture with protruding edges which gives it a leather-like look from afar. I thought the unique packaging might be a bit annoying to hold on to but I've come to think it's quite cute and really differentiates the mascara from all the others in my exploding mascara bin. I've seen a few people online really hate on the packaging but I don't see why.
Verdict?
Because Tarte's Lights, Camera, LASHES has an incredibly long-wearing formula that is still easy to remove with normal cleanser and provides more than enough volume and length for everyday wear I recommend this stuff to ANYONE. What are your thoughts on Tarte's Lights, Camera, LASHES? Has anyone tried the waterproof version?
Neutrogena Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer Review - Mink Brown ( #Crowdtap)
Being a woman of color, finding the right kind of makeup can be difficult, and sometimes downright frustrating. Something as simple as finding a foundation to match your skin tone can seem nearly impossible even with the huge selection of products that are available. However, if you love makeup and beauty products as much as I do, there’s nothing that will stop you from finding the products that will work for you and with you. For me, eye shadow colors that are highly pigmented and will show up on my dark skin are almost as difficult to find as foundation. Needless to say, I’m very selective when it comes to shadows, but I’m always willing to try a new product to see if it a) shows up on my skin, and b) if it’s long lasting. For review purposes, I received Neutrogena’s® New Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer from Crowdtap. How well did it work for me? Let’s take a look…
The Shadow… Neutrogena® Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer in Mink Brown
(View New Neutrogena® Long Wear Eye Shadow HERE)
When I first received the product I was a little disappointed in the color selection. My initial thought was, “hey it’s not going to work on me because brown on brown does not mix” (at least that’s been my experience). Unless I’m using something like a MAC or Urban Decay highly pigmented product, these Drug Store shadows in brown just do not work for me. In any case, I was still willing to give it a shot.
The Results…
Okay, the brown (bottom shade) was not as dark as I’d hoped it would be to create a smoky eye. I had to play around with the shades a bit to get my desired result. On the back of the palette are instructions on how it should be worn:
Top shade: Lid: Color entire eye lid area
Second shade: Highlighter: Sweep over brow bone
Third shade: Creases: Blend into crease
Bottom shade: Liner: Apply along lash line; smudge for intense smoky look
For review purposes, I followed the instructions above in order to create a smoky eye. As I suspected, the bottom shadow wasn’t all that dark on me. I had to apply a lot even though I had extra shadow primer on. The first and the third shade looked almost identical on me as well. In order for my eyes to even look slightly smoky, I had to cheat a little bit and use one of the darker shades from my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. After that, I think the shadow looked okay.
Recommendations…

For a POC (person of color) be aware that you might have to apply more/extra shadow to get the desired effect. Especially if you are like me and are on the dark cocoa side of the spectrum. The color actually lasts all day and as promised, it did not crease. I did add more primer (even though it says primer is built-in) because for me personally, I knew I would need it for the colors to pop. There are more shades available and I am interested in trying out the darker shades in Plum and Smoky Steel. Plums always seem to look the best on my skin tone and from the images on line (the one above); I think it will look awesome. For everyone else, I would recommend it if you are looking for a long last shadow that’s highly affordable.
Have you tried Neutrogena’s® Long Wear Eye Shadow? What do you think of the shades?

Currently Obsessed With....Purple Lipstick
I am so obsessed with purple lipstick, right now. I think it's the perfect mix of goth and pretty. It looks so chic and edgy. It's best with a richly pigmented color. This goes well with most other colors but be sure to keep the rest of your makeup basic as all eyes will be on your puckers. I stopped by my local Rite Aide and could only find this shade of purple at Revlon. I ideally wanted it in a matte lipstick but I didn't any options. I bought the Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick in Color 800, Vigorous Violet. I think it costs around $13.
The only thing about this lipstick is that I think it's long-wearing so I had to use makeup remover to get it off, at night. I also put a layer, let it dry, then put another layer. I did this about 3 times to get the color a bit stronger. I loved it, though. Would you try purple lipstick? Like Tabs On Fashion on Facebook! Follow us on Twitter @Tabsonfashion!
