I'm sure Pitaya judges Ananas just as equally I doubt they'd use the exact words "bodily autonomy" but the Ananas treating their partner in such a way (whether they like it or not) Pitaya would call both of them and their relationship pathetic "You don't want a mate! You want a doll!" actually saying that I realized Longan must find Ananas and their partner despicable (Longan would find Pitaya and their partner equally horrific in their eyes "Why are you treating that thing like your equal.")
Ananas's treatment of their mate is utterly perplexing to Pitaya... Don't they want… a partner? Even if they don't particularly prefer sparring, they could at least let them have more choice. Even the Red Dragon lets their mate pop out of their nest without stalking after them… Most of the time. Keeping their mate hidden away in their mountain – What was wrong with Ananas? Especially picking such a fragile-looking mortal! Pitaya cannot imagine them surviving a mating season, let alone any possible eggs. This is beyond acceptable in their mind.
“Your mate isss too pampered.”
“And?”
“What if they need to fight or sssomething. They'll die.”
“I will guard them. Don't be foolish. They are more precious than any treasure in my nest.”
Pitaya's treatment of their mate leaves Ananas floored. To choose a mortal – a being no doubt weaker than any dragon and so fragile in a variety of ways – and then to pick fights with them and expect them to handle monsters on their own!? Ananas would shudder. A mate is a treasure! An irreplaceable one! They need to be kept away amongst a hoard and guarded. If Pitaya's mate survives into old age, Ananas would be shocked.
“Your mate is bleeding!”
“Yesss? And? I wrapped it.”
“Th-they could have died!”
“Well, they didn't. They're ssstrong! That'sss why they are worthy of being with me.”
Longan is sneering at them both. A mortal as a mate? How foolish. Treating them like a toy is more apt at least to treating them like an equal. Longan ponders how their kin have fallen so low. Then again, there is hypocrisy at play. No matter how much they insist that their mate will return to being a dragon – Longan is still hoarding them away in their palace, being far worse than either of the other two dragons could hope to be.
“Pitiful, both of you. To see you sink to such low standards that you would view a mortal as a worthy mate. Hoarding them away like some precious trinket, or daring to consider them an equal. Foolish.”
“And what do you call who is in your nest currently?”
“Yesss! What isss that mortal with you?”
“... My mate. They are only temporarily like that. They will return to being the dragon you both have known.”
Pitaya and Ananas look at one another wordlessly.
