Weird not to have his truck parked outside my job to bring me home from work. Extra weird to come back to a quiet empty house. To cook and watch our tv shows and go to bed alone. ⠀⠀ The first week of long distance is always the worst. ⠀⠀ But then a new routine forms. ⠀⠀ Things get a little easier. Well honestly it’s up and down. But I’m always more productive. I try to stay busy (hence my like, 5 side hustles) for distraction until he’s back. ⠀⠀ Focusing on the pro’s like starfishing across the entire bed and peeing with the door open and buying whatever home decor I like. 😜 ⠀⠀ In other news, I chose to walk all the way home after work this weekend, stopping for local coffee and for this rose garden. 🌹 Because y’all — Sacramento is exploding with spring blooms and rose bushes! ⠀⠀ We’re allowed to walk or bike around so I’ve been bringing my mask and hand sanitizer everywhere, and paying close attention to socially distance myself. I know many other places haven’t had it as easy so I’m taking full advantage of spring and fresh air! 🌷 And hoping that privilege doesn’t change. • • #sacramentocalifornia #rosegarden #cityoftrees #longdistancesucks #ldrcouple #wearyourmask (at Mckinley Park Rose Garden) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_vHmCWhYjE/?igshid=4q7v2q31q7l8
✨ You’re my favorite notification ✨ ⠀⠀ Well...Day 1 of quarantining alone was tough. The boyfriend left this morning for Katmai until October. ⠀⠀ In the park service, you need to acquire a certain # of months before being able to apply for permanent status. After this season, he (we) can start looking at a park to “settle down” at! Which is both relieving and terrifying. But mostly really exciting. ⠀⠀ New chapters and big changes are coming! ❤️ ⠀⠀ But in the meantime : Long distance sucks. Like I mean, REALLY sucks. Especially right now — When you’re sheltering in place and not advised to travel to see each other and with all the covid-19 unknowns. (And no, we can’t even really FaceTime, call, or text this season cuz his service in remote Alaska is expected to be almost non-existent 😭). ⠀⠀ I almost just apologized for being a total downer with this caption. But I get a lot of questions and praise about how we handle long distance, so I think it’s important to show reality, and lean in to the many emotions that come with it. ⠀⠀ ❓Are you quarantining alone? Got any Netflix or Hulu suggestions for me? How are you all holding up in the chaos? . . #throwback #longdistancesucks #ldrcouple #parkrangerlife #boredinthehouse (at Stay At Home) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_rFWcbjO2w/?igshid=9g5gbaswv4qm
I like to keep it pretty positive here, but I am 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙜𝙜𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 today. My boyfriend leaves for his super remote 5-6 month Alaska park season in 15 days. 😳 FIFTEEN. Where did the time go?! ⠀⠀ It feels like a lot to be handling more long distance 𝘢𝘯𝘥 going through the rest of this pandemic alone. ⠀⠀ What usually gets us through the distance is being able to communicate (phone calls, texts..) and to visit each other throughout his season. But this time, he’ll have little to no service and honestly, nobody knows when our shelter-in-place order will end. ⠀⠀ I’m trying not to stress about it while he’s still home and just take things day by day. Just praying this goes away soon and we can see each other before October. ⠀⠀ It’ll be tough but we’re tougher. 💪 . . Are you doing long distance with your partner right now? Or are you quarantine buddies? #longdistancesucks #ldrproblems #throwback #waybackwednesday (at Pinnacles National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_BsZySBZfH/?igshid=mm3zlwfbd2d7
Y’all, long distance is HARRRD. We’re pretty much pro’s at it by this point, but that doesn’t make it any easier. ⠀⠀ He’s got 2 more months at home left, before he leaves for his ~5 month park season in Katmai, Alaska. I AM NOT READY! 😭 ⠀⠀ Trying to just enjoy the time we DO have together and to be in the moment with him. But every now and then, that ticking time bomb in the back of my mind pops out and shakes me into a familiar sadness. ⠀⠀ Have you done long distance? Where were you and where was your partner? So the boyfriend and I just left for my birthday weekend road trip 🥳🚙 and he gets a phone call. An interview for his next park ranger season. ⠀⠀ We pull over, he’s calm and cool, I’m freaking the frick out, he does the interview, and at the end... ⠀⠀ HE GETS THE OFFER AND ACCEPTS! 🍾🎉 ⠀⠀ SWIPE to see where his next season will be! ⠀⠀ I’m soooo excited for him! We’re still processing though. He’ll be flying in small planes, driving boats, and doing backcountry patrols which is all hella cool! But he’ll also probably have the least amount of (if any...) service or wifi that he’s ever had at previous parks. So our communication will be EXTREMELY limited for 5-6 months. ⠀⠀ Oh, and here’s a hint if you haven’t swiped yet : The interviewer said “Close-up encounters with grizzlies are frequent and to be expected. (😬) You’ll be with at least one other ranger at all times, and you’ll carry a shotgun.” ⠀⠀ So yeh. Long distance, as often as we do it, is hard enough. Most long distance couples aren’t worrying about whether or not their partners been eaten by a bear or been in a plane crash. But for now, I’ll just be cheesin with him, celebrating my birthday tomorrow and his new season, and counting down the days we’ve got left together. 👩❤️👨 . . #parkrangerlife #longdistancesucks https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Cl1VahP26/?igshid=anfw48aydccm
Unexpected
I don’t like to live my life with regret
I don’t often let opportunities pass me by
But there are a few times when I’ve let something get away
If ever there was one who got away it was her. Ms. Twi
She cut me off hard after confusing times in Bridgeport. My first ever car accident. Unspoken desires, betrayed hearts and reeling minds. She wanted to not speak to me again. ever.
She reached out and immediately started conversation tonight. It was...
