World’s Longest Insect Discovered - And It’s A Whopper
It’s been named Phryganistria chinensis Zhao and it’s a type of stick insect measuring a whopping 62.5cm. It was found during a field inspection in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 2014 and has broken the record for length for all 807,625 insects discovered so far. Certainly beats the ones I kept as a child. Even ‘Mightyslim’ was only a few inches in length.
For any London/UK readers, the second largest insect (56.7 cm) is actually in the Natural History Museum if you want to go see it.
