#289: Eat at Longfellows
#289: Eat at Longfellows
Longfellows, located in Saratoga Springs near Saratoga National golf course, is one of those nice restaurants you go to for a special occasion. The food is good, they have a decent wine list, and the ambiance is terrific (dim lighting, fireplaces, rustic in the good way). it's one of those "oh yeah, you'll get laid tonight if you take me there" kind of places. Don't laugh--you know what I'm talking about.
Kinds of things you'll see on the menu:
Calamari
Prime Rib Rolls
Asian Lobster Trail Spring Roll
Home style turkey dinner
Chicken Saute
Pork tenderloin
Roast duck
New York strip steak
Blackened swordfish with mango relish
Jumbo shrimp and lobster scampi
Glazed ginger teriyaki tuna
Kentucky bourbon salmon
Expect to pay about $25+ for an entree.
They are also a hotel and conference center for meetings.

Welcome!
Let me say that from the array of bad murals I have collected so far, it is really hard to decide what to start with. One of my favorites? One that is especially offensive? One that has been recommended to me by multiple people?
Hmmm... How about one that I drive by every day to work?
Here's the one that started the whole mess:
Meet the Longfellow's dragon.
Where do I start? The bad anatomy? The unsure brush strokes? The use of only black and blue, the colors that reflect how my brain feels after looking at it? The fact that it appears to be happily belting out a techno tune from the 80's? I say all of the above. Well played, Longfellow's dragon, well played.
The only thing that makes it worse is that this is not the only mural for Longfellow's. Of course not.
Sweet mother of god.
If I wasn't already feeling questionable about going into this store because of the dragon painting, this really was the icing on the cake.
I mean, just look at the Mad Hatter's face:
He looks like he's going to take that tea cup, smash it, and use the shards to kill the ambivalent Alice sitting across from him. This dude is pissed. And crazy (but we all knew that). Also, that bloodthirsty rabbit is something out of my nightmares. Yikes.
Now that that is said and done, I thank you, dearest Longfellow's books, for giving me the idea of starting this blog and being my first post. Please continue being creepy and setting the bar for bad murals.
