Advice for Remy, Day 138. Take really good care of your teeth. So this one probably seems like really obvious advice - after all, nobody's ever going to say to you "don't brush your teeth, it's all a scam perpetuated by Colgate" (although with a lot of the crap some people believe right now I wouldn't be surprised). But it's so, so impartant to look after your teeth. They're with you for your whole life and they’ll do you an incredibly valuable service. Aesthetically you'll regret it if you don't keep them in full working order, not to mention how difficult you'll find it to eat with less-than-adequate gnashers. But for me, the over-riding reason to take as good a care of them as you can is because it's excruciatingly painful when teeth start to go bad. Many years ago I had a hole in my tooth which I ignored, until it got so bad I had to have root canal work done. They drilled down inside the tooth to the root and put in a huge filling - and I can't describe how painful it was (mainly because they didn't me quite enough anaesthetic during the procedure so I could feel every single second of it). Many years later, parts of that filling fell out, resulting in the hole being opened. Again, true to form, I ignored it. Inevitably, it got infected and resulted in me getting an abscess around it. I can't even describe how insanely painful this was. At one point I couldn't eat, sleep, or even just sit. It was the kind of all-encompassing pain that makes you want to smash your had against a wall. A relentless, deep, dark, scything, stabbing, aching, pulsing, black and devilish pain which you can feel around your mouth, cheek, face, head, neck and eyes. A crushing pain you want to scream out of your body. A painful extraction later and a few stitches and it was all sorted, and now feels fine. But I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy, so please, look after your teeth - because they'll really punish you if you don't.
