august 29, 2019 | hi everyone!! i started my junior year about a week ago and i’m so pumped to return to studyblr! i’ve been mostly reblogging stuff over the summer, so i’m super excited to start posting original content. i’m excited to challenge myself over the school year in new ways, and i hope i can motivate you to do the same!
ok honestly this is really weird timing for this post and not really what i usually do, but i was scrolling through someone’s blog and got inspired. i am in no way a fashion expert, but i’ve been told i almost always look put together and (by some people) that i know what i’m doing. here are some tips on how to fake it til you make it. under the cut as always! xoxo, m
looking put together in terms of your outfit:
1. basics. a lot of my clothes are super simple and almost everything matches with everything else (no duh m... you only wear black, grey and like 2 other colors). this means you don’t have to think too much in the morning and your outfit will still look pretty coordinated. it might not be a *wow* kind of outfit, but you look decent with about 0 brain power.
2. matching staples. honestly this is probably the key to why people think i always look like i spent time on my outfits. most of my shoes are black and i have a decent amount of black (faux) leather shoes. i also really love my black (faux) leather jacket. i throw those two things on and voila, no matter what else i’m wearing somehow i just look coordinated.
>>> ok so this specific example is a little less applicable now that it’s summer, but honestly a jacket/unbuttoned flannel and shoes can really make any outfit. if you couldn’t tell, i usually go for an edgier vibe, so in the summer i wear grey hi-tops/black combat boots and a super lightweight edgy grey jacket/shirt thing. unless it’s really hot... then no jacket.
3. jewelry. try to match it. to make it easy for myself, i almost exclusively wear silver pieces. that’s not to say you can’t mix and match metals, but it generally requires more thought. i’m super into statement earrings and i have a few plain silver (no colored beads or anything) pairs that automatically elevate any outfit and just make me feel amazing. maybe you’re more into statement necklaces or chunky bracelets? slapping on some cool jewelry definitely makes it look like you’ve put in more effort than you have.
4. makeup. i’m a sucker for a razor sharp, could stab you to death wing. however, that takes a little time. something that’s faster, but also packs a punch is colored liner. especially since i don’t wear a lot of color, i’ll spice things up with a fun liner. or i’ll match my liner to the little color i’m sporting that day. i just use a pencil and do a little flick, but you could also do black on top and line with a color on the bottom. definitely faster than perfecting a wing. silver liner is also super fun to play with!
other tips and tricks:
1. keep your head up. walk looking forward with good posture. pretty self explanatory.
2. walk with purpose. now, this doesn’t necessarily mean walk fast. i mean, i walk really fast, but that’s just me. basically just walk like you know where you’re going and don’t just kind of meander. pretend you’re an important business woman (or man) going to a meeting. really makes it look like you know what’s going on.
honestly not super sure what compelled me to make this, but hopefully this will be helpful to those of you starting new jobs for the summer or relocating to new places for internships. you got this <3
I started the afternoon with a review for tomorrow’s adv. algebra two test. Now I’m going to go take some practice quizzes for my bio test tomorrow. Hope everyone had a great January!
