Whatever else you can say about Mr. Suzubishi, you have to admit that he's got the guts to LITERALLY take 'give yourself a second chance at youth' in a way that's super audacious, lol. In a way, it highlights how his dual nature form a coherent whole well? There's not really a SPLIT.
I totally agree - it’s not a split in the sense of “this is a problem” but more of a “everyone has multiple aspects and most people integrate them well into a larger sense of self.” It’s like... a healthy duality vs a pathological one.
Reminds me of how Keita is kind of struggling with it in the love ending and Kazuki says something about how all those different versions of himself are all the REAL Kazuki. That moment highlights that Kazuki is truly a “real adult” with a deeper understanding of himself and others vs Keita’s youthful inexperience.
I wish everyone in the game had been written so well...

worst part of getting a new computer : transferring files.
100% truth
second worst is reinstalling all those weird old programs that I insist on using even though they’re 10+ years old (you’ll never get me to stop using Paint Shop Pro 7 for quick and dirty photo edits - NEVERRRRRRR)

...........I DIDN'T NOTICE THEY WEREHOLDING HANDS WHAT DOES THAT SAY OF ME. also, bless your roommate lmao.
I NOTICED THAT EVEN ON MY FIRST VIEWING HOW
also, i’m not sure anything will actually beat the time she screamed MAN BUTT at 1am while watching episode 1 (this was right after the premiere, aka well before i started watching, so this ended up being my first impression of yoi. i was a younger and more naive person then.)
An analysis of Yuri on Ice and Post-Episode 8 Predictions
@lookiamnotcreative‘s post On the Love Songs of Yuri on Ice made me start thinking about the parallels in the music to the plot of the story and predictions I made based on it.
This analysis is based on this particular excerpt from the post:
“In terms of composition, Yuri on Ice starts with a piano verse with a repetitive if lovely cadence-trill, with a one-note repeat eventually building up into a dancing melody. The melody is tentative and hesistant and a little lost even as the cadence begins building up—-and it isn’t until the violin comes in that the piano’s melody soars. The violin plays support to the piano but largely does its own thing as far as melody goes, and becomes the dominant line that leads the song and the piano at one point before dropping away altogether. The piano slows down, then picks up the pace again, building a strong, powerful melody of its own—-which is where the violin softly rises up again, this time in a full duet with the piano leading the melody, playing the same tune to the same beats before slowing down and fading out together.”
I initially created a table for this but I’ll put my commentary under the cut!
The Plot So Far
“In terms of composition, Yuri on Ice starts with a piano verse with a repetitive if lovely cadence-trill, with a one-note repeat eventually building up into a dancing melody. The melody is tentative and hesistant and a little lost even as the cadence begins building up…”
Episodes 1-2
In Episode 1, we see Yuuri’s self-doubt and restlessness in coming home to Hasetsu and not knowing what to do with himself. This restlessness is reflected in the trill at the beginning of the song.
This restlessness continues into Episode 2, when Victor suddenly pops up in his life and he’s STILL left shocked and uneasy (evidenced by his conversation with Minako in the ballet studio before they begin training Yuuri.) After all, Victor may be his idol, but Yuuri has no clue if there’s anything behind his intentions. We can hear the song building up, still without the violin, and I believe this is reflective of the resurgence of Yuuri’s hopes.
“…it isn’t until the violin comes in that the piano’s melody soars. The violin plays support to the piano but largely does its own thing as far as melody goes…”
Episode 3
Victor begins taking an active role in Yuuri’s and Yuri’s preparations for Eros and Agape. As we see in episode 3, Victor’s attention is divided, as he’s coaching both skaters. He clearly marches to the beat of his own drum, showing up late to the rink after a night of drinking.
“…and [the violin] becomes the dominant line that leads the song and the piano at one point before dropping away altogether.”
Episode 4-8
In episodes 4-8, we see Victor’s role as a coach becoming much clearer. He’s there to support and critique Yuuri, and Yuuri clearly still looks to Victor for post-skate validation. At this point in the story progression, they’ve already spent several months together, and this is reflected in the switch from the violin’s subordination to its leading the melody.
At the end of Episode 8, we see that Victor intends to return to Japan at the news of Makkachin’s hospitalization.
Predictions for Post-Episode 8
“The piano slows down, then picks up the pace again, building a strong, powerful melody of its own…”
As the Episode 9 summary suggests when it says, “holding Victor’s fading warmth close to his chest…Katsuki Yuuri faces the free program,” Yuuri will face difficulty without Victor, his coach and presumably partner, by his side.
However, he’ll overcome this and deliver a strong performance for the free skate regardless.
“…which is where the violin softly rises up again, this time in a full duet with the piano leading the melody, playing the same tune to the same beats before slowing down and fading out together."
Victor returns or Yuuri flies back to Hasetsu following the Rostelecom competition. Yuuri qualifies for the Grand Prix Final, and while Yuuri may not win the GPF overall (though the optimistic side of me says he will,) they return to Hasetsu (hence the song slowing down,) and skate together (from the unifying of the tune.)
(And no, I don’t think Makkachin will die!)
Thanks to @lookiamnotcreative for their endless YOI meta insights! Your dedication really has me stunned and so thankful!
What would you have chosen between : A) Free Sonoda food for the rest of your life, B) Sakaki merchandise, C) the chance to punch Nakajima in the face?
Sakaki merch, absolutely! That was my immediate gut reaction, and after a few minutes of thinking, here’s the reasons:
Passing on Sonoda food because a) I may never eat again at this rate ugh and b) I’m a very good cook myself (my grandpa was a private chef so my mom was an amaaaazing cook and taught me everything I know) and I enjoy learning new recipes. Also, if I ate fancy French food every day, that would ruin my weight loss progress, and damnit, I’m going to be in control of ONE thing in my life, so help me jeebus.
The chance to punch Nakajima in the face is very tempting, but my line of thought went like this... is it just a chance to punch him? How many punches do I get? What if my punch isn’t very good? Can I try again? Is he allowed to dodge? Will he fight back? So as you can see, too many variables cropping up in my overactive anxiety-riddled mind at the moment.
As for the Sakaki merch I require... a nice 1/6 scale figure in a non-boring pose (dynamic chalk throw, anyone?), a coffee mug that matches the rest of the GH2 mugs, and a cute cushion of his SD illustration’s head.
I feel that these are reasonable demands.
Also some official illustrations and romantic short stories. To be honest, I’d choose those over merch any day...

Thank you for indulging me today. Not in a good place right now. :|
I knoooow. I don’t really know much about pokemon, and I never played it, but now everyone’s freaking out and I’m just sitting here like, “uh? uh? I have to go OUT???” and being very confused.

The only real difference is how Oniichan is more gaunt and has a natural hair color. XD
He’s probably looking a bit rough from all those sleepless nights worrying that daddy’s gonna kill him for running the company into the ground. 8D
I like to believe that the prof’s hair is just so shiny that it looks blue in ‘photos’ because I refuse to write about blue hair. Yeah, yeah, it’s shorthand for ‘smart and aloof’ but still...
lookiamnotcreative replied to your post “Do you know if You Higuri is going to do other GH manga?”
There's a release date announcement for the fanbook in the latest issue of Cool-B. Nothing definite, but they're still planning to release it within the spring season this year.
I’m glad to hear that it’s been mentioned recently! I think the last I heard for the date was winter, which has come and gone, and I hadn’t noticed anything about it on Twitter.
